Quick Facts

  • Role: Product Owner (Agile / SAFe) for clinical oncology software
  • Core focus: Clinician-driven product vision, roadmap, and backlog prioritization

Description

The Product Owner acts as the voice of the customer—specifically a clinician—within an agile delivery team. You contribute to the vision and roadmap, clearly communicate it to the team, accept stories, and continuously refine and prioritize the team backlog, with an emphasis on deep oncology domain understanding. You translate clinical needs into a prioritized, correctly scoped backlog that engineering can build from.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery backlog definition phase and refine with the development team across sprints and iterations
  • Translate clinical needs into a prioritized, correctly scoped backlog with input from architecture, security, and UX
  • Write user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical requirements that don’t require guessing
  • Socialize incoming features and enablers early and align with PI objectives
  • Support the Business Product Manager with customer requests and discovery backlog prioritization
  • Contribute to preparing the feature and enabler backlog for the next Program Increment
  • Keep the backlog focused on maximizing clinical and business value while minimizing cost
  • Bring clinical evidence into prioritization using observation, clinician feedback, and usage data
  • Learn and fully understand product functionality and manage the requirements baseline
  • Run demos of working software and speak to the development team from the user’s perspective

Requirements

  • Direct experience in oncology care delivery or a closely adjacent clinical specialty (hospital, cancer center, clinical network, or point-of-care software)
  • End-to-end working model of the oncology patient journey (referral/intake through surveillance)
  • Practical understanding of how a hospital runs and how clinician time and attention are structured
  • Familiarity with the clinical data landscape and interoperability limits (EMR/EHR, pathology/radiology reporting, genomic/biomarker reports, HL7 v2, FHIR, DICOM)
  • Ability to collaborate as a peer with oncologists, pathologists, nurses, and hospital IT; run discovery sessions and convert clinical reasoning into requirements
  • Awareness of regulatory and quality considerations for clinical software (medical device software, clinical safety, patient data protection)

Benefits

  • Work in agile at scale using SAFe and Atlassian tooling (Jira, Confluence)
  • Use clinician-informed insights to help improve how cancer care is delivered
