Description

As a core engineer, you will build and improve backend systems powering an applied AI product used by commercial insurance underwriters. You will own backend services, data and ML pipelines, and the infrastructure behind the product, handling large volumes of structured and unstructured data (including documents, third-party sources, and model outputs). The role is hands-on end-to-end engineering with significant individual impact in a small team.

Responsibilities

• Own backend services, data, and ML pipelines for production systems

• Ingest, process, and reason over large volumes of structured and unstructured data

• Design, build, test, and operate production systems at scale

• Build and improve data-driven microservices using RESTful APIs

• Collaborate with full-stack, backend, ML, and platform engineers to shape system architecture and operations

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production systems

• Strong development skills in design, debugging, and problem-solving

• Strong Python fundamentals and solid experience in at least one other language

• Relational database experience, preferably PostgreSQL

• Experience with AWS and asynchronous or serverless workflows (e.g., EC2, Lambda)

• Ability to design and build data-driven microservices leveraging RESTful APIs

• Degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related field OR equivalent practical experience

• Enjoy writing code and solving non-trivial technical problems

• Curious about AI, data, and real-world applications of machine learning

• Take ownership and comfortably work with ambiguity
