Description

You will split your time between delivering critical backend changes in PHP and shaping architectural standards across engineering teams. The role drives evolutionary modularization of a monolith, improves system/database performance, and designs modern tooling, AI agents, and automation. You will also run architecture/code/data/performance/security audits and help reduce technical debt.

Responsibilities

• Conduct architecture, code, data, performance, security, and operational risk audits; support a plan to reduce technical debt

• Define architecture direction considering scalability, reliability, security, and maintenance cost

• Participate in key business projects: design architecture together with teams, implement/review/deliver critical PHP backend changes

• Lead cross-team architectural decisions and RFC processes with business value, cost, risk, and trade-off analysis

• Set standards for code quality, testing, security, observability, documentation, and technical reviews

• Profile applications and diagnose production/performance issues; remove bottlenecks in code, MySQL, and Elasticsearch; coordinate service-to-service communication

• Perform evolutionary modularization of a multi-team monolith in a single repository (domain boundaries, module ownership, dependency rules, and selectively extracting justified service areas)

• Raise the organization’s technical level via code review, mentoring, documentation, reference patterns, and knowledge sharing

• Define and implement shared rules for using AI in engineering work (context requirements, verification, testing, code review, and security)

• Identify repetitive/high-cost work and create/pilot tools, AI agents, and AI automation; measure impact before broader rollout
