Description

As part of the Site Reliability squad, you will be responsible for improving how software performs in production. You will build functionality that helps product squads run their services to defined engineering standards (such as logging) and propose performance improvements for Java microservices. You will also provide training—from microservice performance to running mock incidents and game days.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain code to improve availability, latency, performance, and efficiency
  • Collaborate with product-aligned squads to enable reliable operation of their services
  • Deliver capabilities that support operational standards (e.g., logging)
  • Suggest microservice performance improvements, including database query efficiency and ways to reduce response/processing times
  • Run training for engineers on performance topics and incident simulation (“mock incidents” and “game days”)

Requirements

  • Passionate software engineering background building and maintaining services in Java
  • Specialism in the operational performance of Java microservices
  • Broad experience operating Java-based microservices, including database queries, measurement, debugging, and performance improvement
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers across the company to resolve operational challenges
  • Willingness to provide training and develop other engineers

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native platforms
  • Experience with modern observability patterns and tooling
  • Experience working with message-driven architectures and/or event sourcing
