Description

You will improve service reliability, performance, and operational excellence for Toyota’s connected services platform across European markets. This is a hands-on role where you will define SLIs/SLOs, build automation and observability using Datadog, run incident management, and operate AWS workloads on EKS/ECS while working closely with backend engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product teams to define and enforce SLIs and SLOs for backend microservices
  • Improve reliability across a microservices ecosystem (Java/Spring Boot, Python, Node.js)
  • Optimize system performance (latency, throughput, memory/GC tuning, JVM diagnostics)
  • Drive resilience patterns: circuit breakers, retries, graceful degradation
  • Build deep observability with Datadog (metrics, logs, traces, synthetics, RUM, APM)
  • Triage and restore services during incidents and ensure proactive communication
  • Conduct post-incident reviews, root cause analysis, and track long-term remediations
  • Operate backend services across EKS and ECS
  • Manage AWS components: API Gateway, Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, IAM, S3, VPC, CloudWatch, ALB/NLB
  • Support CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI)
  • Build tooling and automation using Python and/or shell
  • Troubleshoot and operate MSSQL/SQL and MongoDB (indexes, replica sets, PITR), including backup/restore reliability, failover, and performance tuning
  • Understand and work with messaging and queues (SQS/SNS, Kafka)

Requirements

  • 3+ years as a Service Reliability Engineer
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot
  • Good proficiency in Python or another backend language
  • Knowledge of AWS services including EKS, ECS, IAM, VPC, RDS, S3, and API Gateway
  • Hands-on experience with Datadog: APM, Logs, Dashboards, SLOs, RUM, Synthetic Monitoring
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • SQL/NoSQL: MSSQL (or other SQL dialects) and MongoDB (indexes, replica sets, performance tuning)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI
  • Knowledge about queues and messaging: SQS/SNS, Kafka
  • Basic Linux and networking fundamentals (HTTP, TLS, DNS, load balancing)
