Description

The Software Asset Management (SAM) Expert ensures internal software license compliance and advises businesses on licensing models when purchasing new software. The role leads audit readiness and responses, governs the end-to-end software asset lifecycle, and partners with Procurement, Legal, and software publisher owners to ensure the right entitlements are owned and used according to signed contracts. It also improves SAM service performance through metrics, reporting, tooling support, and software/entitlement data analysis to optimize cost and reduce compliance risk.

Responsibilities

  • Own effective license positions (ELPs) for key publishers and keep software usage aligned to entitlements
  • Govern the software asset lifecycle from demand and deployment to monitoring, reallocation, and decommissioning
  • Lead audit readiness and provide vendor audit responses, driving remediation of compliance gaps and control weaknesses
  • Advise on licensing terms, entitlements, contracts, and renewals to support commercial decisions and reduce compliance/cost risk
  • Maintain and improve SAM processes, controls, procedures, and KRIs to strengthen governance and operational performance
  • Collaborate with business and Digital & Technology teams to address non-compliant usage and mitigate licensing risk
  • Support optimization of SAM/ITAM tools and contribute to automation for better data quality and scalability
  • Analyze software and entitlement data to produce reporting and identify optimization opportunities

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in IT Asset Management or Software Asset Management, including audit experience
  • Understanding of SAM processes, audit and information security, and risk management principles
  • Ability to make appropriate technical decisions and initiate actions to resolve operational issues
  • Experience with SAM and discovery tools such as ServiceNow, Flexera, or Snow License Manager
  • Knowledge of licensing models, terms, and conditions for major vendors (Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, SAP, Adobe)
  • Understanding of service management and process improvement methodologies
  • Stakeholder management, communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
