Description
Procurement Engineering Specialists establish technical and quality requirements for materials, parts, and designated contracts under a nuclear Quality Assurance Program. You will perform procurement engineering evaluations (PE Evals)—the primary work product—by researching procurement documents, determining requirements, documenting conclusions, and completing required reviews to ensure license basis and regulatory commitments are met. After qualification, you may be assigned emergency response or storm response roles and will serve as an on-call rotational PES.
Responsibilities
- Actively promote safety behaviors; monitor and influence suppliers to identify safety concerns proactively.
- Perform emergency role duties as assigned through SAMS and/or the nuclear ERO.
- Complete/maintain qualification and support PES team tasks (administration, scheduling, meeting organization, performance metrics).
- Screen PE Eval requests, gather required information, and select the appropriate evaluation type (e.g., Root Cause).
- Research technical documentation (drawings, calculations, specifications) to determine procurement requirements.
- Perform PE Evals and document disposition/conclusions in the required format.
- Resolve PES-related vendor exceptions with Procurement Specialists, Receipt Inspectors, and vendors.
- Support contract development for services by resolving PES-related quality requirement issues with contract teams.
- Identify and document cost-savings/efficiency improvements found during PE Evals.
- Perform key PE Eval types such as Item Equivalency Evaluations (IEEs) and Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) as applicable.
- Maintain proactive communication with internal and external stakeholders and serve as a procurement engineering point of contact.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or another scientific discipline, or equivalent related experience.
- Experience must match the selected level:
- Specialist II: 1+ year procurement engineering experience (or 5+ years equivalent related experience without degree).
- Specialist III: 3+ years procurement engineering experience (or 7+ years equivalent related experience without degree).
- Senior: 6+ years procurement engineering experience with 4+ years supporting the nuclear energy industry (or 10+ years equivalent related experience without degree).
- Senior Lead: 8+ years procurement engineering experience with 6+ years supporting the nuclear energy industry (or 12+ years equivalent related experience without degree).
- Understanding of procurement engineering and power-plant in-discipline items (Electrical/I&C, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, parts, materials).
- Quantitative/analytical skills for technical data analysis and reporting.
- Logical, systematic problem-solving with concise, data-supported conclusions.
- Knowledge of procurement and contracting processes and the PES role within them.
- Project/task management and the ability to deliver on schedule.
- Strong written and oral communication; ability to resolve conflicts and maintain relationships.
- Ability to complete PES qualification programs and perform multiple types of PE evaluations.
- Travel up to 25% and readiness for storm/outage/emergency assignments; must have US work authorization (no visa sponsorship).
