Description

The Director, Theranostics and Radiation Science leads and develops the Radiation Sciences team and serves as a senior medical physicist supporting imaging and dosimetry strategy across programs. You will optimize nuclear medicine imaging protocols, manage patient-specific (internal) dosimetry calculations, and provide technical support to clinical sites and cross-functional stakeholders. The role includes vendor/contractor oversight and authoring/reviewing dosimetry and imaging content for regulatory submissions.

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute imaging and dosimetry strategy for assigned programs, from Phase 0 biodistribution studies through clinical dose escalation

  • Optimize and review nuclear medicine imaging protocols, including QC parameters, acquisition/reconstruction, radiation dose determination, and protocol dose management

  • Define technical requirements for clinical-site imaging execution and ensure adherence to study protocols

  • Design and oversee QC protocols with internal teams and external partners for imaging review/processing

  • Manage external imaging and dosimetry vendors/contractors (scope, deliverables, issue resolution)

  • Perform, review, and oversee image-based, patient-specific internal dosimetry calculations

  • Author and review dosimetry and imaging content for regulatory submissions (e.g., IND/CTA) and health-authority responses

  • Provide training, mentorship, and problem-solving support to Radiation Science and internal/external clinical study teams

  • Represent Radiation Science on cross-functional study teams to ensure QC, acquisition, dose management, and regulatory compliance best practices

  • Support regulatory compliance for radioactive materials; stay current with AAPM, SNMMI, NRC and international guidance

  • Contribute to research and discovery projects as needed

  • Travel as needed (5–10%)

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in medical physics, physics, or related scientific discipline (required) plus a bachelor’s degree in a physical science/engineering/math field (required)

  • Medical physics residency (or equivalent postdoctoral training) and 5–10 years post-training experience in nuclear medicine, molecular imaging, or radiopharmaceutical development (1–2 years industry preferred)

  • Personalized dosimetry experience for radiopharmaceuticals with OLINDA, MIM, or similar tools (required)

  • SPECT and PET imaging experience, including image reconstruction and camera quality control (required)

  • Strong radiation biology and radiation physics knowledge (required)

  • Computer skills with DICOM and PACS; working knowledge of at least one programming language (MATLAB, R, Python) (required)

  • Ability to interpret imaging-related protocol requirements and translate dosimetry/biodistribution results into program recommendations

  • Experience mentoring/supervising scientific staff and leading cross-functional workstreams

  • Knowledge of radioactive materials regulations and guidelines (e.g., AAPM, SNMMI, NRC)
