Description

Lead and grow a team of mainframe software engineers responsible for designing, building, and evolving GM’s core mainframe applications that power global business operations. Own end-to-end delivery across multiple value streams, translate business priorities into an engineering roadmap and backlog, and provide technical guidance on mainframe design patterns, data models, performance tuning, and integrations. Drive modern engineering practices (Git-based workflows, CI/CD automation, and test automation) while moving the mainframe toward a modern, automated, AI-enabled software factory.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of mainframe software engineers with a culture of inclusion, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Own end-to-end delivery for a portfolio of mainframe applications across Design to Launch, Source to Deliver, Make to Ship, Vehicle Order to Deliver, Use to Service, and Record to Report.
• Maintain an engineering roadmap and well-managed backlog balancing new features, technical debt, and modernization work.
• Provide technical direction on mainframe design patterns, data models, performance tuning, and integrations with surrounding systems.
• Champion modern mainframe engineering practices: Git-based workflows (GitHub), branching/code review standards, CI/CD automation (e.g., GitHub Actions), and test automation.
• Apply AI thoughtfully in the engineering lifecycle (code assist, test generation, defect analysis) to automate workflows and improve quality and speed.
• Partner with platform, SRE, and security teams for availability, observability, compliance, and production operational excellence.
• Use metrics (lead time, deployment frequency, change-failure rate, escaped defects, availability) to continuously improve team performance.
• Represent the team with product, business, and leadership stakeholders; communicate status, risks, and trade-offs.
