• Role: Scientific Programmer (fixed term, 3 years)

• Focus: Earth-system modeling and particle-based climate simulations using ICON and Cleo

Description

You will work on enabling and extending large-scale ICON simulations coupled with the super-droplet model Cleo for cloud microphysics. Your tasks include generalizing Cleo and its coupling to ICON, collaborating with European project partners, and supporting model evaluation and development of both models.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to enabling large-scale ICON simulations coupled with Cleo for cloud microphysics

• Generalize Cleo and its coupling to ICON for broader particle-based use cases

• Collaborate with European partners in the Lighthouse Code project (PHOENIX)

• Support model evaluation and development of ICON and Cleo

Requirements

• Degree in computer science, software engineering, physics, or related fields

• Excellent programming skills and evidence of collaborative coding

• Ideally experience with C++ and Kokkos

• Experience in high-performance computing

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

• Interest in working with particle methods and km-scale climate models

• Proficiency in English (German skills welcome)
