What you’ll do as a Staff Visual Product Designer, Design Systems
- Define and evolve the visual design language across product surfaces to create a cohesive, distinctive, and scalable customer experience.
- Set a high bar for visual craft across typography, color, layout, iconography, illustration, motion, data visualization, and interaction details.
- Partner across Design Systems, Product, Engineering, Research, Content Design, and Brand to translate customer and business needs into system-level solutions.
- Own and evolve foundational design system elements: design tokens, component visual states, responsive behavior, theming, density, and platform-specific adaptations.
- Create reusable patterns and guidance so product teams solve common problems consistently while preserving flexibility for different customer workflows.
- Design and prototype system components and end-to-end product experiences using high-fidelity exploration to communicate intent and accelerate alignment.
- Bring visual clarity and hierarchy to complex, data-rich workflows for security, compliance, IT, legal, finance, and business stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure fidelity, accessibility, performance, and maintainability.
- Establish principles, standards, and review practices that raise the quality and consistency of product design.
- Advocate for inclusive and accessible visual design across color, contrast, typography, motion, and interaction states.
- Support emerging needs including AI-powered experiences, personalization, automation, and complex enterprise workflows.
- Use customer insights, product data, usability feedback, and competitive research to improve the system and its impact.
- Work AI-natively, using AI tools throughout the design process, including shipping designs for non-deterministic AI-powered experiences (chat, agentic modalities, etc.).
- Facilitate critiques, workshops, and cross-functional reviews to improve visual and product decisions.
- Influence product strategy and roadmap through design perspectives, narratives, prototypes, and a clear point of view.
- Mentor designers and help build a culture of thoughtful critique, continuous learning, experimentation, and customer obsession.
- Create documentation, examples, and enablement materials to make the design system easy to understand, adopt, and extend.
- Define and measure design system impact through adoption, consistency, accessibility, usability, delivery efficiency, and customer outcomes.
- Represent Design Systems in planning processes and product reviews to align teams around a shared vision.
- Share best practices to strengthen design craft and improve visual product quality across the organization.
How to be successful in this role
- 8+ years designing digital products, with significant visual product design experience for complex B2B SaaS or enterprise software.
- Deep expertise in visual design including typography, color, composition, layout, iconography, illustration, motion, interaction states, and data visualization.
- Portfolio showing exceptional visual craft and systems thinking at both component and end-to-end workflow levels.
- Experience creating, evolving, and scaling product design systems used by multiple teams.
- Strong understanding of design tokens, component architecture, responsive design, accessibility, and the relationship between design tools and front-end implementation.
- Track record of turning ambiguous product/customer problems into clear, reusable visual solutions.
- Experience partnering with engineers to bring detailed designs to life and making pragmatic decisions under implementation constraints.
- Strong product thinking across customer needs, business goals, technical constraints, and relationships among product surfaces and workflows.
- Excellent communication, storytelling, and facilitation to influence product and engineering partners without formal authority.
- Balance consistency and flexibility: know when to extend an existing pattern vs introduce new ones.
- Ability to give and receive thoughtful feedback and mentor to raise the quality bar.
- Comfort in ambiguity: decide with incomplete information and balance strategy with action.
- Experience designing in cybersecurity, compliance, GRC, IT, infrastructure, financial services, or other regulated domain is a plus.
- Experience with Figma and familiarity with front-end technologies or design system implementation workflows is a plus.
- Commitment to principles including customer obsession and leading with resilience.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Computer Science, or related field.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future employer sponsorship.
- Responsible for protecting company and customer data in how you operate and deliver results.
- Open to using AI to amplify skills with curiosity, willingness to learn, and sound judgment applying AI responsibly.
