Description

Lead an engineering team responsible for avionics unit development, including Command and Data Handling subsystem design, analysis, hardware procurement, and testing. Work across teams to impact spacecraft design and build phases: roadmap and new avionics architecture development, design implementation with Systems and Subsystem Engineering, spacecraft power-on and data collection in AIT, and support for orbit raising after launch.

Responsibilities

  • Lead your team: Design C&D-H subsystem architecture, wirelists, command & telemetry databases, and data buses; resolve AIT anomalies; support spacecraft launch and orbit raising operations.
  • Focus on your team: Mentor, train, and develop team members; provide opportunities based on needs.
  • Ensure the highest quality: Own quality of deliverables to stakeholders.
  • Foster collaboration: Collaborate within the team and across the organization.
  • Be a partner: Support internal and external stakeholders; collaborate with Systems Engineering and AIT for clean hand-offs.
  • Continuously improve: Identify and eliminate product/process inefficiencies.
  • Own portfolio cost models and budget: Manage budget, identify risks/opportunities, and own cost models for new business proposals.
  • Own portfolio schedule: Manage schedule and coordinate with peers to meet stakeholder needs.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field (M.S. preferred)
  • 8+ years of experience in aerospace/related field working electronics/electrical systems or product development for high reliability, space-based systems, or other critical systems
  • Experience managing and/or leading engineering/product teams or projects
  • Experience leading electrical engineering designs through the full lifecycle
  • Familiarity with the space environment and its effect on satellite systems; exposure to both Rad Hard and COTS designs
  • Experience with analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits
  • Knowledge of electronics design and electrical communication standards: RS-422/485, MIL-STD-1553, SpaceWire/Ethernet, CAN, SPI, I2C
  • Knowledge of common circuit blocks including filters, power supplies, and microcontrollers
  • Exposure to FPGA hardware implementation for flight applications in aerospace
  • Knowledge of DFX, root cause, derating, and related analyses
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomous, demanding environment
