Staff Software Engineer

Senior • On-site

31,500 - 40,350 PLN/yr

Warsaw, Poland

Description

Join the Shopping AI & Search squad within the Shopping Journey tribe, which helps customers manage subscriptions, find and order products, and get support when needed. The squad builds unified AI Assistant experiences across chatbots and the broader shopping journey, including personalized and conversational search and proactive in-app recommendations.

HelloTech builds the digital products behind an end-to-end food experience, including meal kits, ready-to-eat meals, pet food, and premium meat and seafood. Its subscription-based direct-to-consumer model relies on technology across customer-facing applications, personalization, pricing, forecasting, supply chain, and food-waste reduction. Teams work in autonomous, cross-functional alliances that own specific domains end to end, using shared platforms, data, and engineering standards.

From Warsaw, you will help shape scalable, data-driven products used across markets while working with a modern technology stack and international teams.

What’s in the Box

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for this initiative, shape architecture, drive technical decisions, and help teams build AI-powered systems that are fast, reliable, and useful.

The Recipe

  • Lead the technical architecture for unified AI Assistant experiences spanning conversational search, personalized search, and proactive in-app recommendations.
  • Own end-to-end technical decisions for integrating LLM-powered capabilities into customer-facing systems, balancing quality, latency, and cost at scale.
  • Act as the technical bridge between Shopping AI & Search, neighboring Shopping Journey squads, and product and platform stakeholders to maintain coherent architecture as the assistant expands.
  • Define and drive engineering best practices for AI-powered systems, observability, graceful degradation, and testing of probabilistic components.
  • Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, design discussions, and hands-on mentoring.
  • Use AI coding tools such as Claude and Cursor in day-to-day development and help the wider team adopt AI-assisted engineering practices.
  • Shape the technical roadmap by identifying architectural bottlenecks and proposing improvements early.

The Ingredients

  • 8+ years of backend engineering experience, with deep expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture, including Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SQS/SNS.
  • Strong hands-on proficiency in Go or another modern backend language, such as Java/Kotlin, Python, or TypeScript/Node.js, and willingness to work in Go as the squad’s primary stack.
  • Practical experience integrating LLMs or other AI services into production systems through APIs or SDKs. This is not an ML engineering role; foundation models are not trained in this role. You should be comfortable designing for latency, cost, and non-determinism.
  • Genuine daily use of AI coding tools, such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar, beyond casual experimentation, and an understanding of how tool context affects output.
  • Solid understanding of modern cloud infrastructure, including AWS and Kubernetes, and observability practices; ability to set and advocate standards across the tribe.
  • Track record of turning ambiguous product problems, such as search relevance, recommendation quality, and conversational UX, into a clear technical roadmap.
  • Collaborative, low-ego problem-solving approach, strong technical judgment, and interest in mentoring engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working with senior stakeholders and distributed international teams.
  • Experience with search or recommendation systems is a plus, not a requirement. The key focus is designing and operating reliable, scalable backend systems and reasoning effectively about new systems.

The Toppings

  • Global collaboration with experienced engineers and product partners across international teams in a culture of active knowledge sharing.
  • Build and operate AI-powered systems at global scale for millions of customers.
  • Drive best practices and influence architecture, quality, and ways of working in an autonomous, product-led environment.
  • End-to-end ownership from problem definition through production, with continuous improvement of delivered solutions.
  • Workspace access at Mennica Legacy Tower, Prosta 20, including showers, breakout zones, outdoor space, cycle parking, and refreshments.

The application profile will be reviewed and a response is aimed within 5 business days.
