Senior Staff Software Engineer

The team owns the full data ingress pipeline, from third-party devices such as Cisco and Aruba to the internal Kafka backbone, as well as egress of enriched location and telemetry data to downstream systems, external APIs, and partner platforms. The domain is being rebuilt as event-driven, observable, documented, and scalable. This role serves as a technical anchor: raising engineering standards, delivering pragmatically, and aligning engineering and product.

What You Will Work On

Data ingress & device integration

• Own the pipeline that brings external device data into the platform.
• Build and maintain robust integrations with Cisco Spaces, Aruba, and similar third-party infrastructure.
• Work with high-volume BLE telemetry, Kafka Streams, and gRPC in a multi-tenant SaaS environment where correctness and latency matter.

Data egress & external integrations

• Build and evolve the egress layer that streams enriched location and event data to partner systems and customer-facing APIs.
• Deliver real-time position feeds, alarm forwarding, and standards-compliant adapters.
• Own how external systems consume platform data.

Architecture & technical leadership

• Drive architectural evolution: decide what to rewrite, what to stabilize, and how to sequence work without disrupting production.
• Establish engineering standards for documentation, Testcontainers-based testing, and Prometheus/Grafana observability.

Cross-team ownership

• Work directly with product stakeholders to translate business requirements into engineering decisions.
• Clarify unclear scope and resolve dependencies that block the team.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Java/Spring and Kafka Streams-based services that process real-time BLE and IoT telemetry at scale.
• Own ingress integrations with third-party location platforms, from protocol understanding through production reliability.
• Build egress pipelines that stream location and event data to downstream systems through REST, gRPC, and WebSocket.
• Drive and document architectural decisions.
• Use AI tools as a core development workflow for code generation, debugging, documentation, and prototype acceleration.
• Define and enforce testing standards using Testcontainers and CI pipelines, including Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
• Instrument services with Prometheus and Micrometer, and build Grafana dashboards for operational visibility.
• Collaborate with Data Platform and SRE teams on Kafka topology, state-store configuration, and infrastructure ownership.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, design sessions, and direct feedback.

What We Are Looking For

• 7+ years of backend software engineering experience with strong production Java and Spring Boot experience; Kotlin is preferred.
• Deep hands-on Apache Kafka knowledge, including Streams, state stores, topology design, and operational behavior.
• Experience building real-time, event-driven distributed systems in multi-tenant SaaS environments.
• Database fluency with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
• Hands-on AWS experience with EKS, Kinesis, and S3; ability to read and write Terraform and Helm.
• Track record of taking ownership of messy, under-documented domains and improving them.
• Ability to work with product and business stakeholders and translate business needs into engineering decisions.
• Clear written and verbal English.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Kraków, Poland.

Nice to Have

• Experience with IoT or BLE telemetry systems.
• Go or Python for tooling and automation.
• Familiarity with AsyncAPI, Drools rules engine, or OAuth2/Keycloak.
• Experience in a high-growth Series B/C product company.
