The Methodist Transplant Institute, in partnership with The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), is accepting applications for a medical director of transplant hepatology. The program provides liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation, living-donor organ transplantation, and hepatobiliary surgery for patients with end-stage organ disease.
Responsibilities
- Lead the liver transplant program and support excellent patient outcomes, program growth, and compliance with UNOS and OPTN rules and bylaws.
- Provide care for patients with advanced liver disease, including pre-transplant candidate evaluation, donor selection, waitlist management, and long-term post-transplant care.
- Work with the surgical director, quality director, and senior administrative director of transplant to maintain high-quality outcomes and expand the Transplant Institute’s reach.
- Support re-initiation of the living-donor liver transplant program.
- Build relationships with community and internal partners.
- Train medical students, gastroenterology fellows, and transplant hepatology fellows.
- Supervise advanced practice providers.
- Participate in clinical and translational research through the Transplant Research Institute, with opportunities available.
Qualifications
- MD or DO.
- Current board certification in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-fellowship liver transplant experience.
- Must meet OPTN/UNOS certification requirements for a primary liver transplant physician.
- Must currently provide direct care to hepatology and liver transplant patients.
- Proven leadership, team-building, collaboration, and verbal and written communication abilities.
- Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners physician license.
- ERCP skills are beneficial.
