Java Architect
Senior • Remote
30,000 - 34,500 PLN
Wroclaw, Poland
Project overview
The project supports the migration of existing services and applications to AWS and the development of new greenfield platforms for a major investment management organization. The engagement includes full-platform modernization: decomposing a monolithic Azure-based legacy system into cloud-native microservices, establishing domain-driven data ownership, and building institutional client-facing solutions. The role will help shape the architectural direction of a large-scale, high-stakes migration.
Position overview
As a Technical Architect, you will own end-to-end architectural decisions for a portfolio of Java microservices on AWS. You will define domain boundaries, data models, API contracts, security standards, and event-messaging topology. You will work with Engineering Managers, Delivery Managers, and cross-functional product teams to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable platform designs and ensure implementation by delivery teams.
Technology stack
Java (Amazon Corretto), Micronaut, Gradle, Hibernate, MyBatis, Aurora PostgreSQL, Flyway, AWS EKS, Argo CD, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Kong API Gateway, AWS IAM, Secrets Manager, OpenTelemetry, Azure B2C, AWS Cognito, E-Hub (pub/sub).
Responsibilities
- Define and own target architecture for cloud-native Java microservices, applying Domain-Driven Design principles, bounded contexts, aggregate roots, and domain events.
- Design CQRS-style read/write separation over relational stores, using GraphQL composition and ORM read paths with a Hibernate write path.
- Establish and govern event-driven messaging topology, including pub/sub patterns, event contracts, consumer-group design, and coexistence strategies during Azure-to-AWS migration.
- Architect security-first persistence with credential-free AWS IAM database authentication, KMS encryption at rest, TLS in transit, and least-privilege database roles.
- Define identity and authentication patterns using Azure B2C (OIDC/JWT) and AWS Cognito for admin, organization, and end-user personas.
- Design and oversee the Kong API gateway layer, including routing, OIDC plugin integration, rate limiting, and zero-downtime consumer cutover during migration.
- Own infrastructure architecture: EKS cluster design, Helm chart standards, Argo CD GitOps pipelines, and Terraform module structure for dev, test, stage, and production environments.
- Conduct architecture reviews and produce solution-design documentation as the authoritative reference for delivery teams.
- Mentor senior engineers and tech leads and raise architectural maturity across the program.
- Stay current with industry trends, including AI tooling, to keep solutions innovative and competitive.
Requirements
- 15+ years of professional Java development experience, including 4+ years in architecture or technical leadership.
- Deep expertise in microservices architecture, DDD, event-driven systems, and cloud-native design principles.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of Java 21+, Micronaut or Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, MyBatis, and Gradle.
- Proven CQRS and event-sourcing design and delivery over relational stores.
- Aurora PostgreSQL or equivalent managed RDBMS experience: schema design, Flyway or Liquibase migrations, connection pooling, and IAM-based authentication.
- AWS EKS, RDS, IAM, Secrets Manager, ECR, CloudWatch, and X-Ray knowledge.
- API gateway design and operations experience with Kong, AWS API Gateway, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Azure B2C (OIDC/JWT) and/or AWS Cognito for multi-persona authentication flows.
- Hands-on Terraform, Argo CD, and Helm experience.
- CI/CD pipeline design experience using GitHub Actions or equivalent.
- Security architecture knowledge: IAM, zero-trust patterns, and encryption at rest and in transit.
- OpenTelemetry instrumentation, distributed tracing, and structured logging experience.
- Excellent English communication, architecture documentation, and technical/non-technical stakeholder presentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and proactive, outcome-driven approach.
Nice to have
- Finance or investment management industry experience.
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional or Developer certification.
- Azure Service Bus and hybrid Azure-to-AWS EventBridge migration-pattern experience.
- Micronaut GraphQL module experience for read-only schemas over normalized relational stores.
- Aurora PostgreSQL temporal or history-table pattern experience.
- Kong experience for platform-wide API governance.
- Graph data-structure experience in relational stores, including adjacency, entity-node, and relations patterns.
What We Offer
- Up to 26 business vacation days per year.
- 10 fully paid illness/special days per year, with no medical papers required, for all contract types.
- Health and life insurance.
- MyBenefit platform with a Multisport option.
- Internal psychological support service.
- English language classes from the first working day.
- Access to O’Reilly, LinkedIn Learning, Udemy, and internal training.
- Flexible workplace: office, home, or hybrid work.
- Tech Skills Mentoring Program.
- Opportunities to develop as a public speaker, mentor, or technical interviewer.
- Fully paid bench time when not assigned to a project.
- Certification reimbursement for AWS, GCP, Microsoft, and other certifications.
