The Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology at Children’s Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Pediatric Fellowship-trained Anesthesiologist with a specialty in cardiac anesthesia to join the perioperative team. The division provides care to more than 30,000 children annually in perioperative anesthesia, critical care, and pain medicine settings.

Opportunity with Pediatric Anesthesiology

  • Join a service consisting of 35 pediatric anesthesiologists, including 8 specializing in cardiac care, and 12 advanced practice providers.
  • Provide care for 400+ heart surgeries and 350+ cardiac catheterization procedures annually.
  • Work within the Herma Heart Institute caring for patients with congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac transplantation needs, and ventricular assist devices.
  • Dedicated 24-bed CVICU with full-time in-house cardiac intensivist coverage.
  • Participate in innovative research and quality programs.
  • Practice in OR and non-OR settings with fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologists and anesthesiology assistants.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to cardiac and perioperative team members.
  • Contribute to education for fellows, residents, medical students, and trainees.
  • Participate in academic, research, and educational missions.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, technicians, and procedural teams.

This is an acute care trauma service model covering all aspects of acute care surgery, critical care, and trauma at a Level II Trauma Center with 24/7 in-house trauma attending coverage. During the day, one trauma surgeon/surgical intensivist or critical care intensivist staffs the SICU, one surgeon staffs the Acute Care Surgical Service, and one surgeon is dedicated to trauma patients on the floor and trauma activations. At night, one trauma surgeon covers the SICU, Acute Care Surgical Service, and Trauma, with 4–5 night shifts per month. Back-up for the night trauma surgeon is provided by a day trauma surgeon. ICU and trauma services are supported by allied health providers. The acute care surgical service includes surgical resident supervision. The ideal candidate will have completed a Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care Fellowship and be board certified/board eligible in Surgical Critical Care through the American Board of Surgery. An interest in participating in trauma research is required. Physicians are strongly encouraged to be involved in medical education.
