Mission

In collaboration with the Florida State University College of Medicine, the primary mission of the FSU Family Medicine Residency Program at Winter Haven Hospital is to provide a dynamic, professional learning environment. This environment is grounded in the concepts of life-long learning, teaching, quality improvement, evidence-based medicine, and scholarship. The goal is to recruit and train the next generation of Family Physicians in Florida, Polk County, and the BayCare System.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Transitional Year Program Director with program accreditation, rotation tracking, curriculum development, and resident advising.
  • Collaborate with the Family Medicine Associate Program Director on resident rotation schedules for Family Medicine (FM) and Transitional Year (TY) residents.
  • Perform additional academic and clinical duties as assigned by the Family Medicine or Transitional Year Program Directors.
  • Play a significant role in curriculum development and resident career choice education.
  • Provide full-spectrum outpatient family medicine, including prenatal care, pediatrics, and adult care.
  • Regularly precept residents in the clinic.
  • Share call duties with physician members of the family medicine department.
  • Perform and precept various office procedures.
  • Foster a noncompetitive, supportive environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess strong computer skills and proficiency with electronic documentation.
