Job Summary

The Nuclear Pharmacist is responsible for following good sterile compounding practices in preparation and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals. Acts as the shift supervisor in line with pharmacy policy & procedures during their respective shift.

Key Accountabilities

  • Exemplifies compliance with all regulations, Company Policies, Corporate Standards and Health and Safety rules related to area of responsibility.
  • Process and review customer orders from initial receipt through final packaging accurately and consistently.
  • Accurately set up and compound radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Manages the shift in alignment with pharmacy policy & procedures and directs all employee activity during their shift.
  • Supervise and/or perform leukocyte labeling procedures.
  • Handle, package and deliver radiopharmaceuticals and hazardous materials in compliance with regulations and safety rules.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of drug inventory and necessary supplies.
  • Supervise and/or perform required tests on equipment (e.g., dose calibrator constancy and survey meter checks) and manually record results.
  • Supervise and/or perform quality control tests on prepared products to ensure all quality requirements have been met.
  • Provide training and supervision to employees to ensure lab activities comply with regulations and safety rules.
  • Supervise and/or process returned medical waste and maintain reusable supplies in compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain lab cleanliness according to housekeeping schedules, including mopping, sweeping, cleaning workspaces, and waste removal.
  • Supervise bio-hazardous waste disposal and prepare paperwork for shipment and tracking.
  • Supervise and/or perform radiation wipes and surveys on shipping containers, supplies, incoming packages, workspaces and vehicles.
  • Participate in maintaining a safe work environment by completing required training and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Accurately enter regulatory, sales, customer, or other required information into the pharmacy computer system.

Education and Experience

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) and/or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, or Board of Pharmacy intern licensure/permit and enrollment in a Pharm.D. program with expected graduation within one year.
  • Willingness to become an authorized user of radioactive materials.
  • Licensed or eligible to become licensed to practice pharmacy.
  • Willingness to work on an on-call basis with ability to arrive within 45 minutes.
  • Ability to accommodate shift changes based on business needs.
  • Valid driver's license for necessary delivery area.
  • Ability to lift 25 to 50 lbs routinely and up to 70 lbs occasionally.
  • Willingness to submit to a drug test and background check.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Previous experience with sterile compounded pharmaceuticals or radiopharmaceuticals preferred.
  • Previous clean room experience preferred.
