Quick Facts

  • Role: Robotics Controls Engineer (Humanoid Arms)
  • Focus: Low-level real-time control and motion planning for multi-DOF humanoid robotic arms
  • Work setup: Full-time, onsite in New York City; US relocation option
  • Eligibility: US work authorization required; visa sponsorship not available

Description

Design, implement, and tune low-level controllers for multi-DOF robotic arms, including position, velocity, torque, and impedance/admittance control. Build real-time control loops and interfaces to motor drivers and actuators, and develop manipulation motion planning (collision-free planning, trajectory optimization, and retiming). Work across kinematics, dynamics, system identification, and hardware integration to achieve reliable real-robot performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and tune low-level controllers for multi-DOF robotic arms
  • Build real-time control loops and integrate with motor drivers/actuators
  • Develop manipulation motion planning including collision-free planning, trajectory optimization, and retiming
  • Apply kinematics, Jacobians, rigid-body dynamics, system identification, and calibration
  • Ensure controllers and planners work reliably on physical hardware, closing the simulation-to-reality gap

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Robotics, EE, ME, CS, Aerospace, or a related field
  • 4+ years shipping robotics controls on real hardware, or equivalent research experience (MS + 2 years, or a relevant PhD)
  • Hands-on controls experience on robotic arms, manipulators, cobots, or humanoids
  • Strong classical control skills (PID, LQR, state-space); impedance/admittance or whole-body control is a plus; MPC is also a plus
  • Experience with motion planning frameworks such as MoveIt, cuRobo, OMPL, or TrajOpt
  • C++ and Python experience; comfortable with ROS or ROS 2
  • US work authorization required; visa sponsorship not available

Benefits

  • Full-time, onsite role in New York City
  • Relocation within the US is an option
