Quick Facts

  • Role: Senior Software Engineer, Simulation & Forecasting

  • Focus: Simulation, probabilistic forecasting, calibrated forecasts, and report delivery

  • Working language: English (German optional)

Description

Own production software in Python to build world-model simulations and calibrated probabilistic forecasts for decision-making. Create report outputs with evidence charts and digitally signed results, and validate models against reference data and real outcomes. Lead AI coding agents by writing work orders, reviewing pull requests, and ensuring reliability with tests and green CI.

Responsibilities

  • Build the report layer: report formats, evidence charts, digitally signed output, and an assistant for questions about completed reports

  • Build a world-model engine: parameter ranges, cause-and-effect links, scenarios, and validation against reference data

  • Add calibrated forecasts: pre-registered questions, probability forecasts with measured quality, and comparisons to actual outcomes

  • Own parts of the codebase and lead AI coding agents (work orders, PR review, merge decisions)

  • Specify and review work done by AI coding agents; write the hardest parts yourself

  • Own live code: write tests, keep CI green, ensure security scans are clean, documentation is updated, and container images are signed

Requirements

  • Several years designing and owning production software in Python (show one example)

  • Quantitative modelling experience (simulation such as Monte Carlo, system dynamics, or agent-based)

  • Probabilistic forecasting and uncertainty experience

  • Forecast evaluation experience: proper scoring rules, calibration, and backtesting

  • Ability to turn model outputs into clear reports and charts

  • Comfort with LLM pipelines and directing AI coding agents; demonstrate catching incorrect code/tests

  • English proficiency for day-to-day work (German welcome but not required)

Benefits

  • Early role with real product and code ownership

  • Modern stack: Python, FastAPI, Temporal, Kubernetes, React with TypeScript, and AI models

  • Hybrid work in Saarbrücken

  • ~30 days annual holidays
