Description

The Non-Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in operating designated unit(s) and provides coverage for other Assistant Nurse Managers as needed. The role is accountable for direction and oversight of orientation, training, development, and evaluation of individual staff performance. Works as a role model, educator, practitioner, and leader to help ensure nursing care is timely and meets accepted standards of practice.

Responsibilities

• Help draft schedules and leave for final approval by the Nurse Manager

• Provide input into employee performance; final evaluation completed by the Nurse Manager

• Assist with recommendations for selection of candidates for employment

• Use clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes; provide feedback to the Nurse Manager

• Oversee work assignments and provide reports/fact findings to support recommendations for counseling and/or disciplinary actions

• Engage in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth

• Adhere to ethical principles in decision-making and foster accountability

• Equip staff with tools for competent care and promote high-quality, cost-effective outcomes

• Promote alliances across the care continuum using active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence
