Description

Diagnose, stage, and treat patients with various forms of cancer using medical oncology (chemotherapy and other medications), surgical oncology (tumor removal), and radiation oncology (radiation therapy). Coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team, manage symptoms and side effects, and support patients through education and pain management.

Responsibilities

• Explain cancer diagnosis and stage to patients and discuss treatment options.

• Lead a cancer treatment team of healthcare professionals.

• Coordinate treatment plans and prescribe chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

• Provide radiation therapy.

• Assist with pain management.

• Perform surgeries to remove tumors and determine whether cancer has spread.

• Handle administrative tasks such as maintaining records of test results, writing prescriptions, providing cancer information, and monitoring treatment plans.

Requirements

• Medical degree in oncology with successful completion of residency and fellowship in oncology.

• State license and certification to practice oncology.

• Compassionate and caring approach when dealing with patients.

• Thorough, up-to-date knowledge of cancers and cancer treatment options.

• Technical skills to operate medical equipment and tools related to cancer treatment.

• Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
