Description

As an oncologist, you will work with patients to explain cancer diagnosis and stage, discuss treatment options, and help manage symptoms and side effects from cancer and its treatment. You will lead a cancer treatment team, coordinate treatment plans, and provide therapies including chemotherapy/immunotherapy and radiation therapy, as well as pain management and surgical tumor removal. You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of cancers and cancer treatment options while completing required clinical records and patient education.

Responsibilities

• Explain a diagnosis and stage of cancer to patients

• Discuss treatment options and help manage symptoms and side effects

• Lead a cancer treatment team of healthcare professionals

• Coordinate treatment plans and prescribe chemotherapy and immunotherapy

• Provide radiation therapy

• Assist with pain management

• Perform surgical operations to remove tumors and determine whether cancer has spread

• Complete administrative/clerical tasks such as keeping records of test results, writing prescriptions, providing cancer information, and monitoring treatment plans

Requirements

• Medical degree in oncology

• Completion of residency and fellowship in oncology

• State license and certification to practice oncology

• Caring and compassionate nature when dealing with patients
