Description

You will build Reinforcement Learning control strategies for an Energy Management System (EMS) for commercial and industrial facilities. The system uses energy consumption, renewable generation, electricity prices, and battery status to decide when to consume, store, buy from the grid, or sell back energy. You will develop RL models alongside mathematical optimization and energy system simulations to reduce costs and maximize renewable energy use under technical constraints.

Responsibilities

• Train, test, and improve Reinforcement Learning models

• Develop mathematical optimization models and use them as benchmarks for RL-based solutions

• Define objective/reward functions, constraints, states, actions, and decision spaces

• Build and improve simulations of batteries, PV installations, and energy flows

• Evaluate RL models against optimization-based solutions and baseline control strategies

• Analyze model behavior and experimental results to identify improvement areas

• Validate solutions across different installation configurations and consumption profiles

• Research and evaluate approaches to energy optimization problems

• Prepare and process data for energy consumption, PV production, weather, and electricity prices

• Occasionally support electricity price forecasting for the day-ahead market

Requirements

• Hands-on Reinforcement Learning experience, including DQN or PPO

• Practical experience deploying Machine Learning models into production

• Ability to define reward functions, states, actions, constraints, and decision spaces for RL environments

• Solid foundation in mathematical optimization

• Very good knowledge of Python

• Strong experience with PyTorch (or TensorFlow)

• Very good knowledge of pandas and NumPy

• Experience training/testing/evaluating/comparing ML models

• Ability to work with optimization problems combining discrete and continuous decisions

• Strong understanding of experimentation, benchmarking, and interpreting results

• Ability to write clean, maintainable, testable Python code

• Experience with Git

• High independence and ownership

• English at B2 level or higher
