Description

Join the team behind an Applicant Tracking System where reliability, scalability, and user experience matter. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will develop new capabilities and modernize an existing codebase in Elixir, taking ownership of features and improving performance, reliability, and maintainability. The role emphasizes a product mindset, pragmatic trade-offs, and close collaboration through design discussions, pair programming, and code reviews.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve reliable, scalable backend solutions for an ATS used by thousands of organizations

• Develop new capabilities and modernize the existing codebase for better performance, reliability, and maintainability

• Design and implement solutions balancing technical quality with customer and business needs

• Take ownership of features, ensuring they are well-tested, maintainable, and meet quality standards

• Investigate and resolve bugs and technical issues to maintain system stability

• Contribute to technical discussions, system design, and architectural decisions

• Collaborate with Design, QA, and DevOps to solve complex problems at scale

• Participate in pair programming, code reviews, and real-time problem solving

Requirements

• Commercial experience with Elixir, or strong backend experience in Ruby on Rails, Python, Java, or PHP plus strong motivation to learn Elixir

• Experience designing and building scalable applications

• Solid database knowledge, preferably PostgreSQL

• General knowledge of Elasticsearch and RabbitMQ

• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills

• Focus on quality and reliability with a pragmatic approach to trade-offs

• Product mindset (ask “why?”, consider user problems, evaluate trade-offs)

• Collaborative working style including pair programming and knowledge sharing

• Fluent English (Polish is a plus)
