Description

Affirm is reinventing credit with transparent buy-now-pay-later experiences and flexible terms. In this role, you will lead and deliver backend engineering work spanning millisecond transaction processing and post-transaction ledgering and reconciliation. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and analytics to drive decisions, manage risks/trade-offs, and maintain availability through monitoring and on-call support.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals; lead engineers through ambiguity

• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during ideation and delivery

• Identify and advocate for project/process/technology issues and lead resolution

• Monitor metrics, escalate when needed, and support “keep the lights on” on-call efforts

• Foster quality and ownership via code review and design standards; advocate through writing and tech talks

• Provide feedback and guidance to develop talent; lead by example

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer

• Backend experience at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes

• Experience shipping frontend applications

• Define technical plans for significant features/systems with simple, extensible design; write high-quality, understandable code

• Proficiency making significant changes in large codebases with safe tools and practices

• Demonstrated ownership of growth through proactive feedback seeking

• Strong verbal and written communication skills for global collaboration
