Description

You will help launch and shape a platform performance program for an e-commerce SaaS system. The role spans application performance (PHP, databases, caching) and infrastructure/observability (Linux, networking, servers, APM and monitoring). You will influence architecture standards and performance tooling used across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Build a performance management approach from scratch, defining standards and tools

• Develop observability capabilities: APM, distributed tracing, continuous profiling, dashboards, and alerting

• Design and automate performance, load, stress, and endurance tests

• Integrate performance testing with CI/CD and implement regression detection mechanisms

• Perform root-cause analysis of performance problems and recommend improvements

• Collaborate with product teams during technical reviews, refinement, and code reviews

• Mentor performance-focused engineers in product teams

• Prepare proof of concepts, implement application/infrastructure optimizations, and validate impact in production

• Define SLOs, run capacity planning, and help the organization prepare for high-traffic periods

• Report results of performance initiatives and work with the CTO on the performance strategy

Requirements

• Ability to analyze and profile PHP code and understand the request lifecycle

• Practical experience diagnosing performance issues in Linux using system tools and logs

• Experience creating and running performance tests with tools like k6, JMeter, Gatling, wrk, or similar

• MySQL expertise for analyzing execution plans (EXPLAIN), indexing, and identifying performance bottlenecks

• Use a hypothesis → measure → verify workflow and make decisions based on data

• Ability to independently solve complex performance issues and confirm improvements in production

• Comfort working across both application and infrastructure layers
