IT Systems Technician (Linux/Server Deployment) – Student Internship

Description

Build and deploy two refurbished Supermicro 1U servers from hardware selection through assembly, testing, firmware modification, and secure Linux setup—no cloud setup. Configure one machine as the mail server and the second as its backup, then transport and provision both in a Prague data center.

Responsibilities

• Select and purchase required hardware (two refurbished 1U Supermicro servers, RAM, and drives)

• Assemble servers and test components (memory, disks, system stability)

• Modify firmware by disabling Intel ME and turning off BMC/IPMI (with provided background materials)

• Install and secure Linux and configure safe remote access

• Run a mail server on one server and set up the second server as backup

• Choose a Prague data center and deploy/provision the servers onsite

Requirements

• Regular Linux user experience (homelab, own server, network, or similar)

• Some experience building systems yourself

• Ability to work with documentation and basic hardware tools

• Willingness to troubleshoot and learn independently
