Description

Implement, operate, and administer the company’s backup-focused virtualization and storage infrastructure. You will own capacity and performance management, maintain operating concepts, optimize existing systems and processes, and support project work. The role includes designing and validating backup and recovery capabilities, including policies, restore testing, business continuity (RPO/RTO), and cybersecurity measures for ransomware resilience.

Responsibilities

• Implement, operate, and administer the company-wide backup-, virtualization-, and storage infrastructure (backup focus)
• Capacity and performance management for the supported infrastructure environments
• Create, maintain, and further develop operating concepts
• Analyze existing processes/systems and identify optimization and improvement opportunities
• Review and evolve the architecture of existing infrastructure environments
• Standardize and automate technical and operational processes
• Create, update, and ensure the quality of technical documentation
• Participate in project-specific tasks
• Support implementation of technical IT projects

Requirements

• Completed degree in business informatics, completed IT apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification through several years of IT experience
• Several years of professional experience and in-depth expertise in backup
• Very strong knowledge of operating modern backup infrastructures, preferably with Veeam (Veeam Data Platform, Veeam Data Cloud)
• Ideally practical experience with storage (NetApp) and virtualization (VMware vSphere, VCF)
• Experience creating and maintaining backup policies, retention policies, and data lifecycle concepts
• Practical experience designing and implementing business continuity and recovery concepts aligned with RPO/RTO requirements
• Experience planning, executing, and documenting regular restore tests and validating recoverability of business-critical data and systems
• Knowledge securing backup infrastructure against cyber threats, especially immutable backups, air-gap/offline concepts, and ransomware resilience
• Experience automating and orchestrating backup processes (e.g., PowerShell, Ansible, REST/API)
• Proficiency in monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of backup jobs in complex IT environments
• Familiarity with relevant IT security requirements (encryption, role-based access control, compliance, data protection)
• Strong ability to learn quickly; structured, analytical, solution-oriented working style
• Team orientation; ability and willingness to share knowledge and mentor junior colleagues
• Good German and English skills (written and spoken)
