Staff Product Manager, Industrial Power Electronics Hardware

Senior

136,000 - 294,000 USD/yr

Palo Alto, CA

Quick Facts

  • Role: Staff Product Manager for an industrial medium-voltage power electronics hardware platform

  • Scope: Battery energy storage, utility-scale solar, and data center power

Description

You will own the product roadmap and strategy for a medium-voltage solid-state transformer (SST) inverter platform that consolidates medium-voltage power conversion, protection, and control into a factory-engineered cabinet. The platform is configured as a utility-scale solar inverter and as a data center power supply unit converting medium-voltage AC to rack-level DC. You will define requirements and performance targets, drive cross-functional execution, and translate customer value into positioning and business cases.

Responsibilities

  • Own the MV product roadmap and strategy across battery energy storage, solar inverter, and data center power supply unit use cases

  • Define SST inverter product requirements and performance targets (MV AC voltage, DC bus window, power rating, protection, thermal performance, firmware behavior)

  • Serve as internal subject matter expert for medium-voltage power electronics, SST ecosystem, interconnection, and protection

  • For solar: define requirements for stand-alone MV solar inverter, AC-coupled solar-plus-storage, plant-level controls, and grid-code ride-through

  • For data centers: work with hyperscalers, colocation providers, and design-build firms on MV AC to 800 V DC rack distribution, power density, fault containment, and integration with storage and campus electrical systems

  • Quantify value vs legacy architectures (footprint, install time, conversion efficiency, CapEx vs OpEx, power density, PUE) and translate it into product positioning, configuration strategy, and business cases

  • Partner with hardware, embedded firmware, EMS/SCADA, mechanical, and manufacturing teams on a unified release plan; co-define control features such as grid-forming, black start, Volt-VAR, anti-islanding, voltage ride-through, and remote diagnostics

  • Ensure electrical, thermal, and firmware designs meet applicable IEEE, IEC, UL, and NEC requirements

  • Collaborate with sales and applications engineering on regional MV voltage classes, grounding and protection schemes, and configuration strategy; support proposals, value models, and technical collateral

  • Drive product lifecycle from concept through commercialization; create datasheets, application guides, specifications, and training materials

Requirements

  • 5+ years in medium-voltage power electronics, electrical engineering, or energy infrastructure with recent hands-on exposure to inverters, solid-state transformers, PCS, or MV conversion hardware

  • Deep understanding of bidirectional inverter design and grid-support functions (grid-forming, reactive power/Volt-VAR, anti-islanding, black start, frequency response, voltage ride-through)

  • Working knowledge of medium-voltage systems and interconnection concepts

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision plans (dental/vision include options with $0 paycheck contribution); company HSA contribution when enrolled in a High-Deductible medical plan with HSA

  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

  • 401(k) with employer match; Employee Stock Purchase Plans; company-paid Basic Life and AD&D

  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90-day waiting period) and Employee Assistance Program

  • Sick and vacation time (flex time for salary roles; accrued hours for hourly roles) and paid holidays

  • Back-up childcare and parenting support resources

  • Additional voluntary benefits and employee perks, including earned wage access (subject to eligibility and schedule for applicable levels)
