Quick Facts

  • Role: Senior Robotics Software Engineer
  • Focus: Real-time robotics control, sensor fusion, motion planning, and simulation for marine/offshore robotic systems

Description

Develop and optimize real-time control algorithms for active heave compensation and 6-DoF ship motion compensation to keep the robot end-effector stable in rough seas. Integrate motion-reference, IMU, and computer-vision data using advanced filtering (e.g., Kalman filters), and build forward/inverse kinematics and collision-free trajectory planning for 6-DoF/7-DoF robot arms. Create high-determinism C++/Python software and realistic wave/ship dynamics simulation environments to validate systems before sea trials.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and optimize real-time algorithms for Active Heave Compensation (AHC) and 6-DoF ship motion compensation
  • Integrate data from MRUs, IMUs, and computer-vision systems using advanced filtering methods (e.g., Kalman filters) to predict and compensate platform motion
  • Develop and optimize forward and inverse kinematics, trajectory planning, and collision-free motion planning for 6-DoF and 7-DoF robot arms
  • Develop robust, production-ready, highly deterministic software in C++ and Python for the simulation environment
  • Build and extend simulation environments that model wave physics, ship hydrodynamics, and sensor signals for realistic validation before sea trials
  • Collaborate with naval architects, mechanical designers, and AI engineers to define robust hardware requirements and system architecture

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Robotics, Control Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a comparable field
  • 5+ years of practical experience programming and commissioning industrial or collaborative robot arms, especially with kinematics on moving platforms and dynamic disturbance compensation
  • In-depth knowledge of modern real-time control methods (e.g., Model Predictive Control, adaptive control) and sensor fusion
  • Excellent programming skills in modern C++ and Python
  • Extensive experience with ROS/ROS2 and motion-planning frameworks such as MoveIt! and OMPL
  • Strong knowledge of 3D geometry, rigid body dynamics, linear algebra, and spatial transformations
  • Professional experience in the maritime/offshore/underwater industry (e.g., ROVs, USVs, offshore lifting equipment)
  • Knowledge of maritime safety standards and experience with hardware in corrosive saltwater environments with high vibration
  • Experience integrating 2D/3D perception systems such as OpenCV and the Point Cloud Library for visual-guided manipulation during motion
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded C for ultra-low-latency control/regulation loops

Benefits

  • Unbefristetes employment (permanent) with flexible working hours
  • Attractive compensation package including a company pension plan
  • Training and professional development opportunities
  • Regular team events and workshops
  • Comfortable working environment in a highly motivated team with high ownership
