Quick Facts

Role: Principal Software Engineering Manager
Focus: Self-service test and validation platform for datacenter critical-environment sensors and telemetry
Team: Globally distributed engineering organization

Description

Lead a globally distributed team building a self-service test and validation platform for datacenter critical-environment sensors and telemetry. Own the platform strategy and architecture, partnering across engineering and operations to deliver secure, reliable, scalable capabilities that improve engineering velocity and operational reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, grow, and develop a diverse, globally distributed engineering team with an inclusive culture of accountability and continuous learning.
  • Define and communicate platform vision, architecture, roadmap, and execution strategy for reusable automated tests validating sensor and telemetry health.
  • Partner across engineering, operations, product management, data science, and domain teams to turn operational risks and telemetry-quality requirements into platform capabilities.
  • Establish platform ownership and extensibility model enabling safe test creation, validation, deployment, and maintenance—while the platform team owns frameworks, execution infrastructure, reliability, security, governance, and support.
  • Drive architectural and engineering decisions for highly available, scalable telemetry-processing services with strong latency, resiliency, observability, security, privacy, and cost efficiency.
  • Define and report measurable outcomes using SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, OKRs, and operational metrics to evaluate reliability, adoption, test effectiveness, alert quality, engineering velocity, and customer impact.
  • Improve telemetry and detection quality (telemetry loss visibility, stale/invalid values, coverage, false-positive/false-negative rates, detection latency, remediation time, and platform availability).
  • Drive engineering fundamentals and live-site excellence: design/code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, secure development, observability, operational readiness, incident response, and durable improvements.
  • Lead complex cross-org execution by clarifying priorities, resolving ambiguity, managing dependencies and risk, and influencing senior leaders through sound technical judgment.
  • Build organizational capability and a talent pipeline via hiring, coaching, career development, succession planning, and meaningful growth opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python (or equivalent experience).
  • Ability to meet Microsoft/customer/government security screening requirements; pass Microsoft Cloud background check at hire and every two years.
  • Citizenship verification required (valid passport) due to citizenship-based legal restrictions.

Benefits

  • Eligible for benefits and other compensation.
  • Typical U.S. base pay range: USD $142,800–$274,800 per year; San Francisco Bay area and NYC metro ranges differ (USD $188,000–$304,200).
