Description

Lead the design, development, and maintenance of high-quality Android applications for a VPN product using Kotlin and Java. Drive architecture and implementation of new features, handle complex networking scenarios (e.g., Wi‑Fi/mobile transitions, DNS and connectivity issues), and collaborate with backend, networking, QA, product, and security teams. Investigate and resolve production issues using logs, crash reports, and performance metrics, while mentoring engineers and improving engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Android applications in Kotlin and Java
• Lead architecture and implementation of new VPN features
• Work on Android networking/VPN integration: network interfaces, DNS, routing, connectivity, traffic management
• Design solutions for networking scenarios: Wi‑Fi/mobile transitions, connection failures, captive portals, DNS issues, intermittent connectivity
• Collaborate with backend, networking, QA, product, and security teams for end-to-end delivery
• Troubleshoot complex production issues using logs, crash reports, performance metrics, and debugging tools
• Participate in technical design/architecture discussions and help define best practices
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical feedback
• Mentor junior and mid-level Android developers
• Improve development processes, testing practices, CI/CD, release processes, and overall engineering quality
• Collaborate with India-based engineering teams during CET/CEST hours

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development with significant hands-on Android development
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Java
• Deep understanding of Android SDK, Android lifecycle, and modern Android development
• Strong experience with architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture, or similar)
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, sockets, routing, and connectivity
• Experience troubleshooting complex Android networking and connectivity issues
• Strong understanding of Android security principles (secure storage, encryption, authentication, TLS/certificates)
• Experience with Git and modern development workflows
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Experience writing unit tests and UI/integration tests
• Strong understanding of performance optimization and memory management on Android
• Experience working with international teams, particularly India-based stakeholders
• Experience with apps distributed through the Google Play Store

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building VPN/proxy/firewall/network security/privacy-focused applications
• Experience with VPN protocols: OpenVPN, IKEv2/IPSec, V2Ray, WireGuard, or similar
• Native Android development experience using NDK/C/C++
• Network traffic analysis using Wireshark/tcpdump (or similar)
• Experience with Android security hardening/application protection
• Experience with CI/CD and automated Android build and release pipelines
