Senior

180,000 - 212,000 USD/yr

Cupertino, CA

Quick Facts

  • Role: Senior Firmware Engineer (Power Architecture)
  • Focus: ML acceleration chips—real-time power, thermal, and performance control

Description

You will design and implement firmware algorithms and intelligent control policies that maximize ML acceleration performance while managing power and thermal constraints. The role includes building low-overhead on-device tracing and telemetry, plus developer tools and data pipelines for metric collection, analysis, and visualization to develop, tune, and validate algorithms. You will also create automated testing/validation workflows and collaborate closely with hardware teams to identify optimal instrumentation points.

Responsibilities

  • Develop firmware algorithms for power management, thermal control, and performance optimization
  • Implement real-time control policies and state machines balancing power, thermal, and performance
  • Build optimization algorithms for resource allocation, frequency/voltage scaling, and workload scheduling
  • Design efficient data structures/algorithms for embedded, resource-constrained environments
  • Implement on-device tracing and telemetry collection with minimal workload impact
  • Build developer tools and data pipelines to collect metrics and visualize algorithm behavior
  • Create testing and validation workflows; optionally integrate with cloud-based analytics pipelines
  • Ensure firmware code quality through testing, debugging, and validation on hardware
  • Collaborate with hardware architects to understand capabilities and identify optimal instrumentation points

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new or existing systems
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • Strong firmware or embedded systems development experience
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for systems programming; strong foundation in algorithms and data structures
  • Experience implementing efficient algorithms in resource-constrained, real-time environments
  • Experience with hardware interfaces, instrumentation, or performance monitoring
  • Strong debugging skills with hardware-software systems
  • Experience building developer tools or instrumentation frameworks

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health insurance options (medical, dental, vision, prescription; Basic Life & AD&D; supplemental life options)
  • Employee Assistance Program and mental health support
  • Flexible Spending Accounts; adoption and surrogacy reimbursement coverage
  • 401(k) matching
  • Paid time off and parental leave
  • Sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs)
  • Work-life flexibility and mentorship/career growth support
