Senior Backend Engineer (Python/AWS)We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Python/AWS) to join a growing US-based insurtech company building AI software for the insurance industry. Its software already runs in production at insurance companies, where it supports professional workflows such as underwriting, claims handling, and pricing. The product helps insurance teams work faster and make more accurate decisions, and its use is expanding into further parts of the business. You will join the team responsible for the external-facing APIs behind the company's core customer workflows. Your work will centre on designing and building API endpoints, integrating third-party services, tuning database and query performance, and turning product requirements into dependable business logic.Requirements5+ years of professional software engineering experienceExperience building external-facing APIs or integrations with third-party systemsStrong programming skills in Python, or in another object-oriented language with a willingness to work in PythonExperience with serverless technologies and cloud environments, such as AWS Lambda and EC2Experience designing asynchronous workflowsExperience working with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQLStrong fundamentals in system design, debugging, and problem-solvingA track record of taking full ownership of work and driving projects to completion with minimal oversightProactive communication, surfacing blockers and keeping stakeholders informedComfort with experimentation: testing ideas, measuring results, and iterating quicklyExcellent English communication skillsNice to HaveExperience with LLMs or generative AIExperience with distributed systemsResponsibilitiesDesign and build external-facing API endpoints that carry core customer workflowsIntegrate the platform with a wide range of third-party servicesTranslate product requirements into reliable business logicImprove database and query performance across the platformDiagnose and resolve customer issues as they ariseContribute to making the platform faster, more stable, and easier to useBuild scalable backend solutions that support the company's growthCollaborate with full-stack, data, ML, and DevOps engineers across a global teamTake ownership of features from concept through to productionParticipate in code reviews and technical discussions
