Description

You will be the technical owner for how large GPU clusters communicate internally and externally, including the CNI data plane, overlay mesh, and cross-region/provider connectivity. You’ll own and evolve Kubernetes networking architecture, design and scale overlay networks (CNI/mesh/VPN) and L7 gateways/load balancers, and build scale-test environments to prevent networking regressions from reaching production. You will also debug complex distributed networking issues and partner with cloud and neocloud providers on topology requirements.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve Kubernetes networking for GPU clusters at multi-thousand-node scale

• Design, operate, and scale overlay network components (CNI, mesh, VPN topologies such as Tailscale/WireGuard) and gateways connecting control and data planes

• Design, operate, and scale L7 gateways/load balancers/tunnels (Envoy, Cloudflare)

• Find and eliminate networking scale ceilings (packet loss under load, control-plane saturation, IP address management exhaustion, and high-scale failure modes)

• Build scale-test environments and validation suites to catch regressions before production runs

• Diagnose ambiguous, cross-stack issues where symptoms trace back to networking failures (e.g., mark collisions, stale routes, saturated tunnels)

• Partner with cloud and neocloud providers on topology capabilities and requirements

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience

• 6+ years in systems, network, or infrastructure software engineering

• Deep knowledge of Kubernetes networking architecture and CNI standards; Calico production experience preferred

• Experience with mesh and VPN networking topologies (Tailscale, WireGuard, or equivalent)

• Strong Linux networking fundamentals: routing, netfilter, iptables/nftables, packet marking, network namespaces, and container-runtime interactions

• Ability to debug distributed network problems at scale using packet capture/tracing and cross-host correlation

• Proficiency in Go, Python, C, or comparable systems language

• Strong written and verbal communication across time zones
