Description

You will help advise on the right database choice for applications and set up and configure databases, preferably on Microsoft Azure. You will operate, administer, and further develop database systems (PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle) both on-premises and in Azure, including installation, configuration, patch management, monitoring, performance analysis/optimization, and backup/recovery and high-availability strategies. You will also troubleshoot production issues and support migrations and modernization toward Azure, advising developers and business teams on database-related topics.

Responsibilities

• Advise on selecting the right database for each application; set up and configure databases, preferably on Microsoft Azure

• Operate, administer, and further develop databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle) on-premises and in Azure

• Install, configure, and manage database patching

• Monitor, analyze, and optimize existing database landscapes

• Ensure high availability and implement backup and recovery strategies

• Analyze and resolve incidents during live operations (troubleshooting)

• Support migrations and modernization initiatives toward Azure

• Advise developers and business teams on database-related questions

Requirements

• Experience with Azure Data Services (Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB)

• Experience administering database systems (PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle)

• Experience with monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting

• Knowledge of backup, recovery, and security concepts

• Understanding of database architectures and data modeling

• Ideal: first exposure to cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure

• Structured, solution-oriented working style with a passion for stable and performant operations

• Knowledge of automation (scripting, Infrastructure as Code)

• Nice to have: experience with data integration or ETL processes (e.g., Azure Data Factory)

• Secure German and English skills
