Description

The Compliance Officer ensures the organization complies with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and internal policies through preventive and control activities. The role manages compliance and risk processes, maintains and updates internal documents and contracts, leads internal audits with corrective action follow-up, and reviews grant and donor agreements (including EU/ECHO, UN, and Czech ministries/donors). You also coordinate due diligence, verify alignment with CI Management Standards (CIMS), and support employee training while partnering with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and manage compliance processes and risk management

  • Create and continuously update internal documents and contracts in line with legislative changes

  • Conduct internal audits, implement corrective measures, and monitor completion

  • Review grant contracts and perform donor compliance reviews (EU/ECHO, UN, Czech ministries/donors) with attention to donor requirements and cultural differences for international programs

  • Systematically verify and assess information to evidence reliability, credibility, and compliance with required legal, financial, and ethical standards

  • Coordinate due diligence processes from institutional donors (including ECHO certification processes)

  • Verify activities align with CI Management Standards (CIMS)

  • Train employees and support colleagues across the organization

  • Work closely with internal teams and external entities

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years in the same compliance role

  • Knowledge of the compliance legal environment and standards (e.g., GDPR, AML, whistleblowing)

  • Understanding of internal controls and risk-based approaches

  • Experience in due diligence and spot-checks/monitoring and risk management (advantage)

  • Systematic work approach, analytical thinking, and ability to translate regulations into practice

  • Experience creating internal directives and setting up processes (advantage)

  • Communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams

  • Independence, diligence, and discretion

  • University degree

  • English proficiency; additional languages (e.g., Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic) are an advantage

  • Nonprofit sector experience is an advantage
