Description

Design, develop, and maintain production-grade Python backend services and APIs. Enhance and harden existing systems through improved architecture, code quality, validation, testing, and operational reliability. Build reliable data integrations, asynchronous processing pipelines, and long-running workflows, while improving observability and resolving performance, failure, and technical-debt issues.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production-grade Python backend services and APIs
• Enhance and harden existing systems (architecture, code quality, validation, testing, operational reliability)
• Build and maintain reliable data integrations, asynchronous processing pipelines, and long-running workflows
• Collaborate with product owners, data engineers, data scientists, and full stack developers
• Improve observability with structured logging, monitoring, alerting, and error handling
• Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, intermittent failures, and technical debt
• Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, engineering standards, and release processes
• Drive quality via comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end testing

Requirements

• Strong recent experience developing and maintaining production Python services
• Hands-on experience with FastAPI or a comparable Python API framework
• Strong understanding of modular software design
• Strong understanding of Python typing and validation
• Strong understanding of API contract design
• Clean architectural boundaries
• Experience improving and hardening existing backend applications (not only greenfield)
• Experience designing and implementing unit tests
• Experience designing and implementing integration tests
• Experience designing and implementing end-to-end test strategies
• Strong troubleshooting skills for performance issues, production incidents, reliability challenges, and technical debt
• Experience with AWS
• Experience with Docker
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with production deployment practices
• Experience working with databases, JSON schemas, data validation, and data integration patterns
• Strong ownership mindset focused on delivery quality, code reviews, and validation of final solutions
• Ability to work in small, testable, reviewable increments and maintain disciplined engineering practices
• Strong understanding of when deterministic software solutions are more appropriate than AI or LLM-based approaches
