Quick Facts

Role: Senior Director of Software Engineering (Card Technology organization)

Description

As a Senior Director of Software Engineering, you lead multiple technical areas and drive enterprise adoption of CI/CD, release engineering, and environment automation with an emphasis on operating model, standards, and measurable outcomes. You align cross-portfolio platform engineering teams to build scalable pipeline frameworks, reusable components, automation services, and reference architectures, while establishing governance and engineering standards. You modernize CI/CD pipelines with automated quality/security gates, progressive delivery and rollback, and provide hands-on technical leadership in Java and Python, including software supply chain controls.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver enterprise vision and multi-year roadmap for CI/CD, release engineering, and environment automation, including operating model, standards, and measurable outcomes (speed, stability, quality, developer experience).
  • Lead cross-portfolio platform engineering delivery by aligning teams to build scalable pipeline frameworks, reusable components, and automation services that standardize delivery patterns.
  • Translate business and engineering needs into end-to-end architecture and engineering solutions; produce reference architectures and standards; document trade-offs; drive alignment via architecture reviews and governance.
  • Define and deliver environment lifecycle management across development, test, stage, and pre-production; enable standardized, repeatable, self-service provisioning via infrastructure as code and configuration automation.
  • Coach and lead engineering teams through execution by setting technical direction and success metrics; run design reviews; remove blockers; ensure delivery milestones are met.
  • Partner with site reliability engineering, production management, security, and risk/control to embed resilience, auditability, compliance, and security-by-design across tooling and processes.
  • Establish and enforce release governance and engineering standards, including change controls, artifact management, versioning, dependency management, and approval workflows.
  • Drive operational excellence for CI/CD and environment platforms through reliability engineering, observability, incident readiness, continuous improvement, and clear platform performance reporting (lead time, deployment frequency, MTTR, pipeline reliability, environment availability, adoption).
  • Modernize pipelines with automated quality and security gates (testing, policy checks, scanning), progressive delivery patterns (where appropriate), and automated rollback capabilities.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership in Java and Python as needed (critical components, integrations, prototypes) and optimize build/release performance (caching, parallelization, dependency resolution) while strengthening software supply chain controls (secrets, integrity, access, signing, provenance).

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience; 5+ years leading technologists to solve complex technical problems within your domain.
  • Demonstrated ownership of continuous integration and continuous delivery and release engineering at scale (platform approach, templates and frameworks, standards, adoption across teams).
  • Strong technical depth in Java and Python (ability to guide architecture/implementation, review designs/code, unblock teams).
  • Proven expertise in environment management and environment automation (provisioning, configuration, lifecycle, repeatability).
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle, branching strategies, artifact repositories, versioning, and deployment/release patterns.
  • Experience driving reliability, observability, and operational readiness for platform services with measurable operational outcomes (lead time, deployment frequency, MTTR, availability, adoption).
  • Ability to influence and align senior stakeholders with clear communication and crisp decision-making in ambiguous environments.
  • Experience partnering with site reliability engineering and production management, security, and risk/control to embed resilience, auditability, compliance, and security-by-design across tooling/processes.
  • Hands-on or strongly proven platform experience with CI/CD and release tooling (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab pipelines, Azure DevOps).
  • Experience with continuous delivery and orchestration platforms (e.g., Argo, Spinnaker, Harness, Flux) and artifact/dependency management (e.g., Artifactory, Nexus; Maven and Gradle; Python package management).
  • Experience implementing development, security, and operations controls and software supply chain controls (e.g., SAST, DAST, SCA, SBOM generation, secrets management, artifact signing, provenance).

Benefits

  • Competitive total rewards package: base salary based on role, experience, skill set, and location; commission-based pay and/or discretionary incentive compensation for eligible roles.
  • Benefits and programs based on eligibility, including comprehensive health care coverage, on-site health and wellness centers, retirement savings plan, backup childcare, tuition reimbursement, mental health support, financial coaching, and more.
  • Additional details about total compensation and benefits provided during the hiring process.

Equal Opportunity

Equal opportunity employer; provides reasonable accommodations for applicants' and employees' religious practices and beliefs, as well as mental health or physical disability needs.
