Description

Join a high-performing Software Engineering team within the Image Guided Therapy Devices (IGT-D) Software R&D group. As a Data Scientist co-op, you will support the development, analysis, validation, and documentation of data-driven and machine-learning-enabled workflows for clinical imaging software applications. You will work with AI/ML engineers, data scientists, software engineers, product owners, testers, and cross-functional stakeholders to improve the quality, reliability, traceability, and performance of data and AI/ML models used in medical device software.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a Software and AI/ML Engineering team member on a focused project completed during the co-op
  • Gather, process, organize, and analyze raw data from different sources for clinical imaging or healthcare datasets
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, data quality issues, unexpected results, or preprocessing concerns
  • Verify quality, consistency, and reliability of data sources for AI/ML model development and validation
  • Document data sources, data cleaning processes, exploratory analysis, assumptions, parameters, and performance metrics
  • Assist with model training, evaluation, tuning, and performance analysis under guidance
  • Complete required training to comply with regulatory requirements and quality management system standards
  • Create and present an end-of-summer intern presentation summarizing project, technical approach, results, learnings, and impact

Requirements

  • Pursuing a master’s degree or doctorate (Ph.D preferred) in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and CNNs like UNet, ResUNet
  • Strong understanding of medical imaging standards and formats (e.g., DICOM, NIfTI)
  • Familiarity with imaging data tools (e.g., PACS, cloud-based imaging storage)
  • Experience managing medical imaging databases and understanding how imaging data is used in AI/ML model development
  • Good problem solving and debugging skills
  • Team player with communication, technical writing, and presentation skills
  • Willing and capable of working on-site at the Plymouth, MN office (in-person at least 3 days per week)
  • US work authorization required; no visa sponsorship
  • Must reside in or within commuting distance to Plymouth, MN

Benefits

  • Hourly pay range: $33.00 to $48.00, plus overtime eligible
  • Paid co-op; additional benefits details provided via the benefits page
