Description

The Sr Strategy Principal Engineer has industry recognized expertise in a particular field of engineering or within a particular sector. Accomplished in leading multiple design teams through full product development and into production, the Sr. Principal Engineer consults on product design architectures, assesses technical requirements and competencies needed during quoting, and oversees design progressions during product developments.

Responsibilities

  • Meets the requirements of key technology Lead Engineer in respective expertise.
  • Represents Engineering Services in technical customer discussions/meetings.
  • Works with Project Mgr Engineering Services in the quoting process.
  • Provides technical input to help identify and solve project risks that may affect overall project plans and schedules.
  • Leads the development and utilization of processes for design.
  • Stays abreast of the latest technology and techniques to provide designs that are competitive, cutting edge, and cost effective.
  • Authors or presents papers, articles, or similar materials to raise industry perception.
  • Maintains active membership and participation in applicable industry trade groups/organizations.
  • Works with Site Directors to define potential R&D project proposals to increase technical and process competencies.
  • Leads development and implementation of platform and product architectures with senior technical staff.
  • Guides and oversees system component requirements, interfaces, and specifications to maintain architecture consistency and integrity.
  • Manages product design and documentation at the system and product level.
  • Guides and assists business development in RFQ responses regarding new technologies, equipment, and test strategies.
  • Leads local and remote development teams.
  • Identifies and develops innovative solutions to enhance capabilities and address capability gaps.
  • Oversees laboratory personnel involved in DOE, testing, and/or experimentation work.
  • Leads and/or supports technology training, transfer of best practices, and integration into facilities as required.
  • Consults effectively on multiple projects in parallel.
  • Defines objectives of DOE, CPK analysis, Gage R&R studies, and other tools for corporate strategic projects.
  • Contributes to developing IP, patents, technical publications, or white papers.

Requirements

  • Read and interpret technical procedures, regulations, and professional journals.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Use probability and statistics plus geometry and trigonometry; apply math to practical situations.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret technical instructions in mathematical/diagram form; manage multiple abstract and concrete variables.
  • Develop mathematical models of physical reality and implement solutions.
  • Apply advanced engineering math and statistical methods (e.g., ANOVA, correlation, sampling theory, factor analysis) including reliability/validity determination.
  • Work under pressure with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Frequent computer monitor use; able to sit/stand/walk and occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Oversee laboratory personnel for DOE/testing/experimentation.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Master’s preferred); MBA a plus.
  • Minimum 15 years related experience with Bachelor’s (or 8 years with Master’s) OR equivalent combination.
  • Promotional consideration: meet minimal requirements and have been a Principal Engineer for at least 1 year; meet additional market-sector requirements.
