About the role

Identity sits at the heart of the Retail Platform, serving as the gateway for user interactions, non-human interactions, payments, account access and the Clubcard Experience. The Identity service handles billions of API calls each month, with multiple Scrum teams focused on continuous authentication everywhere.

The role requires translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences, closing the communication gap between engineering and the wider business, and identifying trends and innovations that can improve the Identity API.

You will be responsible for

  • Working with developers to deliver value iteratively
  • Leading development plans by shaping overall strategy, defining and prioritising business requirements, and ensuring plans are integrated across business units
  • Working with Product Managers, architects and the development team to deliver the roadmap using Agile methodologies
  • Prioritising requirements, answering development questions and resolving issues while putting customers first
  • Working collaboratively, applying pragmatic and lateral thinking, and driving positive change

You will need

  • Ability to understand the technical landscape, API infrastructure and how to deliver organisational value
  • Strong understanding of API design and best practice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including creating clear documentation that engineering teams can understand and act upon
  • Highly developed stakeholder-management skills across engineering, senior business colleagues, suppliers, partners and vendors
  • Strong prioritisation and time-management skills, using a value-based approach to competing priorities
  • Methodical, analytical problem-solving skills, often from first principles
  • Ability and willingness to learn new product areas or domains quickly
  • Strong presentation and persuasion skills
  • Collaborative teamwork, ownership, responsiveness and commitment
  • Strong decision-making and prioritisation skills when managing trade-offs and making rapid decisions
  • Expertise in Agile methodologies and writing effective user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Ability to gain the respect and trust of team members and stakeholders

Experience relevant for this job

  • 3+ years of Product Management experience in an Agile or Scrum environment
  • Strong technical skills in APIs, cloud services and identity frameworks; an engineering background is ideal
  • Good domain expertise in a relevant functional area or large, complex domain
  • Knowledge and experience of Product Management best practices and methodologies, with strong technical acumen
  • Technical competence to influence and understand solution context and approach, and support engineering estimation of requested work
  • Understanding of the impact of technical debt and the value of technical upgrades, with the ability to prioritise these with technology counterparts during sprints
  • Experience working with OKRs is highly preferred
  • Experience with authentication standards such as OAuth2 and OIDC is preferred but not essential
