Solution Architect - CREST New Technology - EUI Transformation

IT drives continuous innovation and delivers cost-efficient, high-quality services. The core business runs on HP NonStop Servers (Tandem), with communications infrastructure and message routing implemented on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

CREST is undergoing a major transformation from COBOL programs on the HPE NonStop Guardian platform to a modern, commoditised environment such as Linux. The new technology stack will be Java-based and use Event Hub technologies, such as Kafka, to integrate migrated services with legacy systems. Migrated services must be platform-independent and able to run in OpenShift Linux environments. The migration will be incremental and span several years.

Role

Join the Solutions Architecture team within the Software Engineering Tribe. Define target architectures and design end-to-end solutions across GBS domains, with a primary focus on the EUI Transformation Programme, while contributing to the evolution of the Solution Architecture practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and, where appropriate, lead the design and implementation of architecture solutions for transversal programs, aligned with functional and non-functional requirements.
• Partner with requirement owners, domain architects, and IT engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Bridge Enterprise Architecture and IT delivery teams, ensuring compliance with enterprise standards and domain target architectures.
• Develop reusable solution patterns and building blocks; help shape Solution Architecture and Software Engineering practices.
• Define business-capability target architectures and roadmaps, with a strong focus on EUI Transformation.
• Share best practices and lessons learned through communities of practice.
• Ensure IT solutions align with enterprise engineering and architecture standards.
• Guarantee end-to-end consistency across platforms and teams, including solution walkthroughs.
• Collaborate with security teams to meet security standards.
• Define infrastructure requirements and work with infrastructure teams on technical design.
• Establish guidelines, patterns, and standards for the new technology stack.
• Develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts to validate key architecture components.
• Provide estimation principles for migration phases and proof-of-concept exercises.
• Lead prototype implementation and subsequent work.
• Undertake hands-on Java development while coaching and mentoring colleagues.
• Present solution architectures and plans to management, customers, and team members.
• Act as the technical authority for the new solution stack.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven solutions architecture and systems development experience across inception, budgeting, design, development, testing, implementation, and support.
• Strong expertise in Event Hub technologies, such as Kafka.
• Strong expertise in modern architectures, including SOA and microservices.
• Strong expertise in platform-independent and database-independent applications.
• Strong expertise in object-oriented design and Java programming.
• Strong expertise in database design, including Oracle and SQL Server.
• Strong expertise in containerization and OpenShift environments.
• Experience in Financial Market Infrastructure or regulated environments.
