Senior Visual Designer

Senior • Hybrid

300,000 - 300,000 USD

Los Angeles, CA

About the Team

The Design team owns the visual and interaction language of a product used by millions of people daily. This role is foundational to scaling the team’s craft by building and maintaining the design system that powers the core app and, over time, the broader product surface.

The team has a foundational design system and an opportunity to improve quality and visual design, innovate, modernize, and use AI to accelerate work.

This is a hybrid role based in the San Francisco or Los Angeles office and requires in-person work on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

About the Job

  • Own the development, documentation, and ongoing refinement of the core design system, including components, tokens, patterns, and usage guidelines.
  • Partner directly with product designers and engineers to ensure consistent adoption and evolution based on real product needs.
  • Identify and resolve design inconsistencies across the core app, driving a more coherent and efficient product experience.
  • Contribute strong visual design craft to the system through considered, polished execution that raises the product quality bar.
  • Operate autonomously in a lean environment: prioritize effectively, make defensible decisions without heavy process, and move quickly without creating debt.
  • Lead integration of the design system with AI tools.

Role Requirements

  • 5+ years of product or visual design experience, including 2–3 years of focused design-system ownership; experience must include building or significantly evolving a system, not only contributing to one.
  • Experience at smaller or mid-size companies building or maintaining systems with limited resources and without a dedicated systems team.
  • Strong visual design skills in typography, color, iconography, spacing, and motion, demonstrated in a portfolio that shows craft and systems thinking.
  • Proficiency in Figma, including component architecture, variables, auto layout, and design token management.
  • Track record of partnering with engineers to implement design systems in code and working across design-to-development handoff.
  • Experience documenting systems clearly for product designers, engineers, and non-design stakeholders.

You May Thrive in This Role If You

  • Actively use AI tools in your workflow and seek new ways to leverage them.
  • Thrive as the primary owner of a system, making decisions, documenting them, and standing behind them.
  • Value both the quality of system outputs and the quality of the system itself, balancing visual craft with structural rigor.
  • Are energized by limited headcount, fast timelines, and high standards.

Benefits and Perks

  • Health, dental, and vision coverage: full premium coverage for employees and partial coverage for dependents.
  • Family formation support: up to $300,000 for fertility and family-building support, including IVF, surrogacy, egg freezing, and adoption.
  • Retirement: 401(k) with a 6% match and immediate vesting.
  • Compensation: industry-competitive compensation, company bonus, and equity for every employee.
  • Gender-affirming care: up to 90% cost coverage, access to Included Health, monthly HRT stipends, and more.
  • Time off and rest: flexible vacation policy and two company-wide rest weeks per year.
  • Additional benefits: monthly stipends for cell phone, internet, wellness, food, and commuting, plus breakfast and lunch.

The position combines product strategy, interaction and visual design, prototyping, systems thinking, and AI-enabled workflows while influencing cross-functional partners and design quality. 🗂️ Requirements: Staff-level product design experience, Portfolio demonstrating product-design range and a specialist strength, Ability to set product direction and raise design quality beyond individual work, AI-enabled design, exploration, prototyping, and delivery experience, Systems-thinking ability to create scalable patterns, Strong collaboration with product, engineering, research, and design systems teams 📃 Skills: AI, Prototyping, Interaction, Visual, Product, Systems 🏢 Description: Role Overview Linktree is evolving from a link-in-bio tool into a control center where creators and businesses can understand performance across platforms and decide what to do next, with intelligence and guidance built on their own data. The design team is scaling across several experience pillars and seeks versatile Staff designers with broad capability and a clear area of depth. Why This Role Matters A consumer product at this scale is made or broken by design. The role requires the judgment to frame ambiguous problems, determine what is worth building, and carry work through to a polished, shipped outcome. This designer will uphold a high quality bar and raise the craft of the wider team. What You’ll Do • Own a core surface or problem area end to end, from problem framing through shipping high-craft work. • Set direction and raise the quality bar, not just ship individual screens. • Apply product thinking, interaction design, visual design, and prototyping through production fidelity. • Partner closely with product management, engineering, research, and design systems. • Use AI natively to explore, prototype, and ship, while advancing the team’s practice. • Lead through influence and elevate the craft of other designers. Your Depth — and Your Range The role values both a specialist strength and broad design judgment: framing problems, identifying what is worth building, and working effectively outside a comfort zone when needed. Strong candidates are product designers first. Why Join • Help shape the future of how people connect online. • Contribute to digital experiences used by millions of people worldwide. • Shape the user experience of a widely used global platform. • Work in a collaborative, inclusive culture that values diversity and innovation. • Receive competitive compensation, flexible work arrangements, and professional-development opportunities. Compensation The targeted base salary is $210,000–$250,000 for roles based in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Final offers depend on location, experience, expertise, and role scope and may vary from the listed range. The compensation package includes cash, equity, and benefits. Where and How We Work The team works flexibly across global locations, with fully remote and hybrid office/home options. Work is structured with autonomy, asynchronous collaboration, and occasional coordination outside typical 9–5 hours to accommodate time zones. The culture is family-friendly and Zoom-casual. How We’ll Help You Thrive • Annual wellbeing allowance for fitness memberships, development courses, childcare, travel, charitable donations, pet insurance, home-office setup, and more. • For US-based employees, 100% coverage of monthly premiums and 80% coverage for dependents for medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance. • Employer retirement contribution. • Generous time off for vacation, holidays, parental leave, volunteer time, and other categories. • Employee stock option program. Equal Opportunity The workplace aims to provide an inclusive environment where people with varied backgrounds, talents, and experiences are valued, respected, and able to thrive. Employment decisions welcome all people regardless of sex, gender identity, race, ethnicity, disability, pregnancy, age, or other lived experience.
