About You and The Role

You are the Sr. Software Engineering Manager, Financial Platform, responsible for turning operational activity into auditable, high‑integrity financial records that enable Zipline to scale into new markets. This team owns billing, settlements, ledgers, reconciliation, inventory costing, ERP integrations, and the financial‑event model that downstream reporting, accounting, and controls depend on.

This role reports to the Head of Application Software, leads a small team (2–8 engineers), and partners closely with Finance, Commercial, Manufacturing, Operations, Data, and Platform Engineering.

What You'll Do

  • Own end‑to‑end delivery, correctness, and reliability for the Financial Platform including billing engine, pricing rules, tax calculation, payments integration, refunds, settlements, reconciliation services, and ledger systems.
  • Define and prioritize the product and technical roadmap with Finance and Commercial teams.
  • Reduce manual reconciliation effort, improve settlement accuracy, and compress month‑end close timelines.
  • Design durable financial‑event models and idempotent, ordered transaction processing systems.
  • Set and own correctness and availability SLOs/SLIs for critical financial paths.
  • Lead incident response and root‑cause analysis for production financial incidents.
  • Support audit readiness, reconciliations, and external audit processes.
  • Design and operate inventory costing pipelines and ERP integrations for manufacturing finance.
  • Review critical pull requests, debug production incidents, and contribute directly to technical implementation.
  • Partner with Data and Platform teams on observability, schemas, and event contracts.

What You'll Bring

  • Senior or lead engineering management experience managing a backend team.
  • 6+ years building backend services and 4+ years managing engineers.
  • Experience with billing, reconciliation, ledger systems, marketplace settlement, or ERP integrations.
  • Knowledge of accounting concepts including revenue recognition, reconciliation, COGS, inventory costing, and close processes.
  • Experience designing systems for idempotency, ordered processing, durable event storage, and exactly-once or at-least-once processing patterns.
  • Experience integrating payments, tax engines, ERPs, and third‑party vendors.
  • Experience defining and operating SLOs/SLIs for correctness‑critical systems.
  • Experience working with operationally complex or regulated environments.
  • Based in South San Francisco, CA with regular on-site presence.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to field sites or partner locations.
