Senior Product Manager, Risk
Senior
Hybrid
San Francisco, CA
147,996 - 215,004 USD
🏢 Summary: Senior Risk Product Manager role focused on leading the strategy and execution of a risk platform supporting payment guarantees in open banking payments. The position involves driving AI/ML-powered risk decisioning, collaborating with engineering and data science teams, and optimizing approval rates and loss exposure across the merchant portfolio. 🗂️ Requirements: 4–7 years of product management experience, Experience in risk, fraud, or financial decisioning, Knowledge of ACH or digital payments mechanics, Experience working with AI/ML models, SQL proficiency, Ability to engage in technical architecture discussions, Experience with backlog ownership and sprint planning, Strong analytical and communication skills 📃 Skills: SQL, AI, ML, ACH, FinTech, Architecture, Decisioning, Payments, Risk, Fraud 🏢 Description: WHO WE ARE At Trustly, we're building a smarter, faster, and more secure financial future by revolutionizing the world of payments. As a global leader in Open Banking Payments, we are establishing Pay by Bank as the new standard at checkout, providing unparalleled freedom, speed, and ease to millions of consumers and merchants worldwide. Our Ambition: To build the world’s most disruptive payment network and redefine what the payment experience should feel like. Trustly is a global team of innovators, collaborators, and doers. If you are driven by a strong sense of purpose and thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and high-growth environment, join us and be part of a team that’s transforming the way the world pays. ABOUT THE ROLE We're looking for a senior Risk Product Manager to own the strategy and execution for the risk platform that powers Trustly's payment guarantee. This is a high-ownership role: you'll shape the roadmap, partner directly with Data Science and Engineering on model integration and architecture, and drive decisions that affect approval rates, loss exposure, and guarantee economics across our merchant portfolio. You'll need genuine domain depth — the ability to read a decision engine configuration, pressure-test a model threshold, and translate an ACH return pattern into a product requirement on the same day. Strategic thinking and hands-on rigor aren't optional here; they're the job. What you'll do: - Platform strategy and roadmap. Define and execute the product direction for risk infrastructure — decisioning, model integration, rules management, and real-time controls — with clear prioritization across competing business needs. - AI/ML integration. Work closely with Data Science to translate model outputs into operational product decisions: threshold design, feature requirements, monitoring frameworks, and feedback loops that close the loop between predictions and outcomes. - Technical fluency. Develop deep working knowledge of system architecture, data flows, and tooling so you can identify gaps, unblock engineering, and write requirements that don't need to be rewritten. - Guarantee economics. Understand the approval/loss tradeoff at the segment level and make principled calls about where to tighten, loosen, or differentiate risk controls to optimize performance across the portfolio. - Cross-functional alignment. Serve as the connective tissue between Risk, Engineering, Data Science, Finance, Legal, and Sales — translating complex risk capabilities into language each stakeholder can act on. - Delivery. Own the backlog, lead sprint planning with your engineering counterpart, and maintain a high-quality bar on story definition and acceptance criteria. Who you are: - Domain expert. 4–7 years in product management with direct experience in risk, fraud, or financial decisioning. You understand ACH or digital payments mechanics, dispute windows, and settlement timing. - AI/ML fluent. You've worked alongside data science teams to operationalize models by shaping feature sets, defining thresholds, and building monitoring into product design. - Technically rigorous. Comfortable in SQL, familiar with system architecture, and capable of engaging in technical design discussions. - Analytically sharp. Able to communicate clearly across technical and executive audiences. - High judgment under ambiguity. Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and articulating the reasoning behind them. Applications for this role are accepted on an ongoing basis. Our Ambition: To build the world's most disruptive payment network and redefine what the payment experience should feel like. Trustly is a global team of innovators, collaborators, and doers. If you are driven by a strong sense of purpose and thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and high-growth environment, join us and be part of a team that's transforming the way the world pays. ABOUT THE SOLUTIONS ENGINEERING TEAM Trustly's Solutions Engineering team sits at the intersection of commercial and technical — responsible for making our merchants successful from the moment they sign through every phase of their integration and growth. The team combines deep technical expertise with a strong customer orientation, acting as the primary technical interface between Trustly and its merchant partners in the market. ABOUT THE ROLE As VP of Solutions Engineering, you will build and lead Trustly's US Solutions Engineering function — spanning pre-sales technical consulting, integration support, and ongoing technical account management for our merchant portfolio. You'll work closely with Sales, Product, and Engineering to ensure merchants integrate quickly, run reliably, and unlock the full value of Trustly's platform. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology and commercial outcomes. This role can be based in New York City or San Francisco. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Build and lead Trustly's US Solutions Engineering team — covering pre-sales engineering, implementation, and technical account management across our merchant base. - Own the technical onboarding experience for new merchants — driving down time-to-live, reducing integration friction, and ensuring merchants launch with confidence. - Partner with Sales and Commercial teams on enterprise deals — leading technical discovery, scoping integrations, and presenting Trustly's capabilities to merchant engineering and product teams. - Act as the primary escalation point for complex technical merchant issues — coordinating with Product and Engineering to drive resolution and feed learnings back into the product roadmap. - Develop scalable integration resources, documentation, and tooling that enable merchants to self-serve and reduce support burden over time. - Establish metrics and reporting for Solutions Engineering performance — time-to-integrate, merchant health, escalation volume, and team productivity. WHO YOU ARE - 10+ years of experience in solutions engineering, technical account management, or integration engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. - Deep technical background — comfortable reading and writing code, reviewing API documentation, and engaging directly with merchant engineering teams on integration challenges. - Strong commercial instincts — you understand how technical decisions affect merchant outcomes and revenue, and you know how to communicate tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences. - Experience in payments, fintech, or API-first platforms strongly preferred; familiarity with ACH, payment APIs, and webhook-based integrations a plus. - Builder mindset — you're energized by standing up a function, creating processes from scratch, and building a team in a fast-moving environment. - Excellent communicator and cross-functional partner; you earn trust quickly with merchants and internally with engineering and commercial stakeholders alike. Applications for this role are accepted on an ongoing basis. LOCATION & WORKPLACE This is a hybrid role based out of our San Francisco or New York hubs. We look for team members to be in the office Tuesday through Thursday. SALARY RANGES IN US-BASED ROLE POSTING Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
