About the Role

The Automation Manager is responsible for building and leading the automation and controls infrastructure that keeps the sodium-ion battery manufacturing facility running at full capacity, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, across a 4-shift operation. This role combines strategic leadership with deep technical execution, including control system architecture, team development, equipment commissioning, and operational procedure creation.

The facility is in the planning and build-out phase, and this role will help open it. Responsibilities include participating in equipment design reviews and international Factory Acceptance Tests, and establishing the controls team, standards, and documentation from day one.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the controls and automation function, maintaining system uptime across a 24/7, 4-shift schedule
  • Participate in equipment design reviews, advising on automation architecture, PLC compatibility, and control specifications
  • Lead and participate in international FATs and SATs for new industrial equipment
  • Build and develop a team of Controls Engineers and Technicians (7–12 members)
  • Define shift coverage models, escalation protocols, and response procedures

  • Design and implement PLC–MES connectivity for real-time production data and traceability
