About the Position
The Special Gifts Officer is a frontline fundraiser who plays a vital role in growing the Foundation's base of philanthropic support. You'll build and deepen relationships with recurring, leadership ($1,000), and mid-level ($5,000+) donors who are passionate about key impact areas — connecting them more meaningfully to the work. As part of the Discovery and Donor Development team, you'll work alongside major gifts officers to qualify prospects, support donor journeys, and help move relationships forward.
What You'll Be Doing
Direct Fundraising and Qualification
- Manage a tiered portfolio of donors giving recurring, leadership, and mid-level gifts, ensuring thoughtful stewardship and meaningful engagement
- Design and execute strategies for donor retention, acquisition, and upgrades
- Qualify prospects from donor and non-donor pools, focusing on individuals capable of annual gifts of $5,000 or greater
- Facilitate introductions and transitions to major gifts officers when prospects are ready to advance
- Support events and outreach efforts that advance mid-level fundraising goals
Fundraising Central Services
- Partner with development teams to support donor acquisition, retention, and upgrades through campaigns and events
- Serve as a responsive point of contact for donors by phone and email
- Support stewardship activities including thank-you calls, acknowledgments, and impact reporting
- Assist with outreach for major events and support giving societies and volunteer groups
Operations and Administrative
- Maintain timely and accurate activity reports and strong data hygiene in donor records
- Stay current on organizational priorities and assigned impact areas
- Follow best practices in mid-level and recurring giving
You Should Have
- 3+ years of experience in a nonprofit customer-facing donor relations role OR 2+ years as a frontline fundraiser

Salary
$68,616—$80,052 USD. Salary is dependent on experience and structured pay bands with defined steps for growth and performance.

Position Responsibilities include: - Conducts intake and individualized needs assessment for all participants and collaborates to develop Individualized Service Plan (ISP) that addresses housing goals, maintaining/increasing income and other personal goals identified by the participant including medical, mental health, substance use, financial resources, vocational, and social support needs - Provides referrals, linkages, information, and support to resources that help participants to achieve their ISP goals - Completes program specific assessments (e.g. VI-SPDAT) - Evaluates strengths and challenges to addressing short term and long-term goals, conducts a 90-day review with the participant after initial intake - Maintains documentation standards as required by the Program and policies, including completing case file notes in a timely manner and maintains a complete, accurate, and current participant file with all required documents - Maintains confidentiality of participant files per HIPAA and all applicable guidelines PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Two (2) years of experience in healthcare, case management, homeless services or working with vulnerable populations or a related field MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - All levels of education and experience are welcome MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS - Have employment eligibility verification - Have or be able and willing to obtain CPR/First Aid training - Successfully complete Tuberculosis Test - Successfully complete Background Screening - Successfully complete Drug Test DRIVING Driving is an essential function of this position.
